Chips are eaten by many! It’s the perfect snack for all occasions. While fried chips are what most people think of and crave, let’s look at some other baked chips varieties!

Chips are a snack that is probably one of the most versatile snacks out there. Whether it be super bowl parties, lunches, or other occasions, chips seem to always be at the gathering (no matter what).

When most people think of  chips, they likely have classic Lays, Doritos, and other varieties like that in mind. What many people either avoid (or simply forget exists) is that many of these big brand of chips also have baked chips in the same flavors that we all know and love. Not to mention, they are the healthier snack option.

I feel like baked versions of some classic favorite chips are very underrated. Personally, if I ever go to Subway or any other restaurant that offers them, any version of a baked chip is usually my go-to for a snack that not only tasted good, but makes me feel better about eating it as well!

Some varieties of chips that I think have the best baked versions will be talked about below to see who the winner of each comparison is. Baked chips aren’t only better for you, but in most cases, I feel that they also taste better as well!

In the next few slides here, we’ll take a look at some classic chips and snacks that we all know and love and see how their baked varieties compare to the originals.

BAKED LAYS vs. CLASSIC LAYS

This particular variety is a bit tricky because, with the baked variety, you simply just don’t get the same overly salty and perfectly thin and crisp taste and texture that you get with the classic, original variety of Lays. But that’s okay.

Starting off with the classic variety, obviously, this chip can be eaten and dipped into almost anything and definitely a party favorite and cult classic (that’s for darn sure). You get that super thin and salty flavor that just reminds you of that backyard barbecue on the Fourth of July.

As far as the baked version of Lays goes, I think it’s very delicious. The baked version of these chips is a bit bigger than the originals, meaning that you probably get a few less in an individual sized bag.

Here’s a few nutritional facts about the Lays Baked Chips:

  • Oven-baked, not fried
  • Contains 65% less fat than original potato chips
    • Original potato chips typically contain 10g of fat per 1oz. serving
  • One single-serve bag contains 140 calories
  • In comparison, here are a few nutritional facts about the Lays Original Chips:

    • Fried, not oven-baked
    • Contains 10g. of fat in one single-serve bag
      • Depending on flavors as well
    • One single-serve bag contains 160 calories
    • Winner Here: Baked Lays

      Baked Cheetos vs. Classic Cheetos

This baked variety of a classic favorite chip is probably, in my opinion, the most like the original chip itself. You still get the same flavor and crunchy texture, so when you eat these, you don’t even feel like you’re really missing out in all honesty.

The only difference is there might be the tiniest amount less of cheese on the baked variety; however, some are still packed with a ton of cheese, and you’re still sure to get some classic, delicious Cheeto dust on your fingers! For me, the clear-cut winner here is the baked variety of Cheetos.

Let’s take a look at some nutritional facts about the Baked Cheetos:

      • Each serving contains 120 calories
      • Each serving contains 4.5g of fat

In comparison, here are some nutritional facts about the original variety of Cheetos:

      • Each serving contains 160 calories
      • Each serving contains 10g of fat (double what the baked variety contains)

Overall, the baked variety of Cheetos is my go-to snack and option when looking at Cheetos in general. I can’t even remember the last time I had some regular, classic Cheetos in all honesty. If you haven’t tried these and have a chance do, definitely do. You’ll soon realize that there’s barely a difference between the two, so why not go with the healthier one without it tasting healthier!?

      Baked Ruffles vs. Classic Ruffles

If you compare this version of baked to its original, it’s a bit better in comparison to the Classic and Baked Lays potato chips as well. While the baked variety of Lays chips isn’t as salty as the original, the same cannot be said for the baked variety of the original Ruffles chips.

The baked variety of Ruffles is actually pretty comparable to the original version. It also isn’t as crispy and thin as the original, fried version, but the taste is still there, the ridges and ruffles are still there. All is the same, minus a little bit in the texture department of these chips at hand here.

The baked variety of Ruffles also comes in the Cheddar Ruffles flavor as well, which reminds me of the baked version of Cheetos, in that it’s basically like the original chips and very similar to them, not making you miss them too too much in all honesty.

Definitely give these chips a try (the baked version of Ruffles: cheddar or original plain). Don’t get me wrong the baked variety is good; however, I still prefer the classic ones (but will 100% eat the baked ones as well here).

      Winner Here: Classic Ruffles

While we begin to wrap up here, there’s one honorable mention of a baked variety of a classic chip that exists, but probably shouldn’t: Baked Nacho Cheese Doritos. It was a good effort, but just doesn’t even come close to deserving a description for being that good, truly.

Let us know how you feel about baked chips and if we missed your favorite on this list as well!
