Dairy Queen’s famous treat is the Blizzard, so let’s talk about the 5 best ones!
Dairy Queen was founded back in 1940 in Joliet, IL; the blizzard itself didn’t come around until 1985 and has been a staple and a cult favorite ever since!
If you don’t know what a blizzard is or have never tried one before, then stay tuned because we are going to be diving into the five best blizzards of all time, and good news, you can still get most of them as I don’t believe that any of them are retired (yet)!
Plus, we’ll be talking about some honorable mentions, as well as some that we are most definitely looking forward to trying!
Whether it’s chocolate, vanilla, or anything in between, Dairy Queen definitely doesn’t disappoint when it comes to ice cream. No matter who you are or what flavor preferences you have, Dairy Queen’s surely got something for you.
If you like candy in your ice cream, they’ve got you covered; if you like chocolate and sprinkles in your ice cream, they’ve got you covered; even if you like cheesecake and frosted animal cookies in your ice cream, they’ve still got you covered there! There is no shortage of flavor varieties at Dairy Queen.
Follow along with the following information and let us know which blizzard has been your go-to, or which one is your least favorite!

This first blizzard at Dairy Queen combines one of America’s favorite candies that will surely turn your ice cream into a rainbow.
5. M&M’s Milk Chocolate Candies
The first blizzard on this list has got to be the M&M’s one. As simple as it may seem, the addition of such colorful candies into ice cream is unlike anything else. While they’re not one of the most outrageous candies out there, their flavor all folded inside some delicious and simple vanilla soft serve is the perfect treat for Summer!
With the candies being crushed inside, it reminds me of having Cocoa Puffs for breakfast where the milk turns all brown and chocolatey, because the same thing happens here. Once the candies are blended in, the ice cream begins to look chocolatey, mixed with all the colors of the rainbow from the M&M’s themselves. How cool!
4. S’Mores
This next blizzard here debuted a few Summers ago as a brand new Summer flavor and has stuck around ever since (something to be said there). S’Mores are a campfire classic, so if you can’t take the heat then try a cooler version of this treat instead!
If you look up a picture of this blizzard you may be wondering where the marshmallows are. Are in the actual ice cream? Is the ice cream marshmallow flavored? No, and no.
The cool part about this blizzard is that the chunks of chocolate in the ice cream are filled with marshmallows, and it’s one of the most delicious things that you’ll ever taste and put in your mouth ever! In addition, there are crushed up Grahams blended into the ice cream with the chocolate as well.

These next two blizzards at Dairy Queen combine some of life’s greatest desserts of all time.
3. Summer Berry Cheesecake
While I’m not 100% sure if this one is still available in the Summer of 2020, it definitely doesn’t hurt to ask. This blizzard was quite possibly one of their greatest new flavors that they’ve ever introduced/came out with. If Cheesecake is one of your all-time fave desserts, much like myself, then this blizzard will take the number one spot on your own list.
What’s inside this decadent blizzard? Chunks of New York-style Cheesecake, all mixed together with some freshly frozen raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries. For me, this is great because I’m allergic to strawberries, so anytime I hear the word ‘berry’ attached to any dessert, I get sad knowing I probably can’t have some.
However, with me loving anything fruit-based dessert wise in general, this blizzard is a real true and prime winner for me.
2. Reese’s Cookie Dough
This blizzard is not an official flavor on the menu; however, one day upon going to a DQ, my boyfriend combined two of his favorite flavors into one blizzard and came out with one of the most delicious ice creams/blizzards in history if you ask me.
The combination of the peanut butter and the cookie dough made me feel as if I was eating a freshly baked peanut butter cookie dipped or covered in chocolate. If you love Reese’s and anything Cookie Dough-based, then look no further because you’ve met your one true love and match over here as well.

The number one best blizzard is the perfect combination of mint and chocolate to satisfy your sweet and chilling cravings here! Check it out!
1. Mint Oreo
For me, this one takes the cake by far. During the announcement for Miracle Treat Day a few years back that benefits children’s hospitals, a kid in the commercial said that his favorite blizzard flavor was Mint Oreo. I had never had it before so I tried it and the rest is history! Oreos are good in absolutely anything and everything, and mint chocolate ice cream is one of my favorites and best flavors out there in general.
Sure, it’s typically advertised during Spring; however, I order it all the time, all year, so no worries there if you’re looking to try it right now!!
Normally, it’s made with the traditional vanilla soft serve; however, one time someone ordered me one and by accident, it came with chocolate ice cream instead, but let me tell ya it was absolutely awesome if not better than the traditional vanilla flavor.
If you try any flavor here, be sure to try my most favorite. It’s not too minty for the faint of mouth but has the perfect combination of chocolate to Oreo to mint ratio that will surely have you wishing that you ordered the biggest size instead of a Mini-Sized.
Some honorable mentions/ones we can’t wait to try yet: Oreo Cheesecake, Raspberry Fudge Bliss, and so on (as well as the Frosted Animal Cookie and Classic Oreo)!
For a quick poll here: Let us know what your favorite blizzard flavor of all time is! Also, if you could only eat one type of dessert, without being too specific here, what would it be?
