Here are the best food subscription boxes to try out, including HelloFresh
Food subscription services are incredibly popular these days, can you guess why? Social distancing, of course! If you’ve been considering checking one out, we list our favorites, below.
Due to COVID-19, most of us are relying on delivery services to bring us groceries and meals. Quarantine and social distancing rules are in place, which doesn’t allow us to go shopping as we used to. Not to mention, if we do make a trip to a grocery store, chances are that our favorite foods (or supplies) are low in stock or not available at all.
So if food subscription services were popular before, they are almost an absolute necessity to some! Have you been thinking about joining one of these services? If so, here are some of our favorites we recommend you try.
5 food subscription services to try
Raw Spice Bar
Let’s begin with one for the already experienced cook! If you love spending time in the kitchen, here’s box to try out. Raw Spice Bar offers very unique spices you won’t find in stores. Take your cooking to the next level with one of these tasty spices! This box also makes a great gift for the cook in your life.
I’ve tried a few of these out and they truly do add just what your meal is missing! Check out the Poultry Seasoning the next time you’re cooking chicken for a new taste! The spice features sage, thyme, and rosemary. Best of all, it’s salt-free. These are worth it as all you need is a pinch!

HelloFresh
The recipes are simple and the meal options are great! HelloFresh offers a large variety of meals for you to select from. One thing to know is that, while the recipes truly are simple to follow, they’re not as easy as advertised.
The instructions appear as six or fewer steps, but each “step” has several other instructions. You can’t jump in from step one. I suggest you read it all carefully once or twice before beginning so you are aware of what’s coming next.
That said, the recipes are 30 minutes or less (in my experience) and meals can be delivered up to four times a week. If you need to skip a week, you have that option. Subscribe HERE and get $20 off your first four boxes.
Universal Yums!
In this list, we’re including something for everyone! If you aren’t searching for spices or new meals, how about snacks? With Universal Yums!, you get a box of new candies and treats from a different country each month. This also comes with a booklet that includes facts about the snacks you’re sampling. This one is budget-friendly as subscriptions start at $16.
The one I sampled was from Scandinavia, it came packed with 13 snacks and it was absolutely delicious! Great variety and very tasty yums.

Blue Apron
Blue Apron is very similar to HelloFresh, but there are significant differences. The prices and recipes are competitive, but Blue Apron feels more sophisticated. I recommend this one for those are a little more experienced in the kitchen as the recipes seem more challenging.
Atlas Coffee Club
Did you really think we were going to leave out coffee? Of course not! We are including a great subscription for fans of coffee. Atlas Coffee Club ships a box that includes a bag of coffee (from 6-oz to 24-oz, your choice), your preference of light, medium, or all roast types, and either whole bean or ground.
Get coffee and a postcard from a new country each month, with tasting notes and brewing tips! Discover your new favorite coffee.
Sorpresitas Box
Can’t get enough of pastries and sweets? Check out Sorpresitas Box! You can sign up for a one-time delivery or monthly subscription. This isn’t your average box of candy, it’s all Argentine candy — and only the most popular and trending candy from Argentina.
You can subscribe to the Classic Box, which is $19.99 for over 12 different types of candy and treats, up to 30 units, or the Family Box for over 22 different types of candy and treats and up to 50 units. Shipping to the US is free. This one is great for the summer, kids will love it!
Which one are you most excited to try? Is there a great subscription box we didn’t mention?
