What are the best candy bars?
Everyone loves candy bars. Or they at least like one. Everyone has their favorite that they go to again and again. It doesn’t matter if you’re a peanut butter and chocolate person, a caramel fanatic, are crazy about peanuts or can eat your weight in coconut, there is a candy bar that fits your specific tastes.
Even if chocolate isn’t necessarily your thing, there’s a candy bar out there for you. We eat them at the movie theater, on Halloween, Easter, and Christmas, and just when we need a pick me up after a stressful day.
Candy bars come in all shapes in sizes whether they be the round shape of the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, the flat rectangle of the Crunch Bar, the lumpy rectangle of the Milky Way or Snickers, or the mound-like shape of an Almond Joy or…Mounds. They may all look different and have different ingredients, but they all have one thing in common: they taste amazing!
Over the past century, candy bars have been created, tested, and tasted and they’ve either stuck around long enough to make an impression on our culture or they didn’t work out and we probably don’t even remember they existed.
This list of the top 25 candy bars of all time includes classic candy bars that are still around, a few forgotten ones that can still be found in the candy aisle, and some that were great but are, unfortunately, no longer being made. Let’s take a look!
Is Snickers one of the best candy bars?
If we’re talking about the best candy bars, we can’t have a list without Snickers. It’s chocolate, it’s caramel, it’s nougat and it’s peanuts. It’s literally impossible for it to be bad. Well, unless you’re like my grandma and keep candy around from last Christmas. Then maybe…don’t eat it, but I digress.
Whether you’re eating the full-size bar or the fun-size out of your kid’s Halloween stash, a Snickers is never a bad idea. It has everything most people want from candy. While Snickers has come out with some new flavors, the original is still the best.
The history behind Snickers is really not as interesting as the bar itself. The candy bar was named after Frank Mars’ horse, Snickers. He was the son of the owner of Mars and they simply went with that name. Little did they know how explosive the Snickers bar was going to be.
The bar started its life with a bit of a controversy. When it first came out, it cost 20 cents. The horror! People were so used to paying a nickel for their candy that they were shocked by the high price. If only candy still cost that much today!
But the high price didn’t seem to affect sales because the bar is still around (at a much higher price) and the company is selling approximately 400 million Snickers bars per year in the US. Clearly, we love some chocolate, caramel, and nuts! It wouldn’t have stuck around this long without people loving it.
Is Kit Kat one of the best candy bars?
Is there really anything better than a chocolate bar you can break into pieces? There is just something so satisfying about breaking off a piece, eating it, and knowing you still have more to go. This is one of the reasons Kit Kat is one of the best candy bars on the market.
They give you four bars and if you break off each one, it’s like you’re eating four pieces of candy instead of just one. Unless you’re one of those people that just bites right into it, then, well…we won’t talk about that.
But besides the way you can break up a Kit Kat bar, there is also the chocolate and three layers of crispy wafers. Yum! It’s the perfect thing for a weekday afternoon when you’re about to pass out in front of your computer and need something to get you to the end of the day.
Kit Kat was actually first created in the UK in 1935 as a single bar and then became a two-finger bar in 1936. It was originally named Rowntree’s chocolate crisp after the company that originally made it and it became the Kit Kat after World War II. The name comes from a club in the 17th century that took place in a pie shop in London. The way they used to name chocolate is fascinating.
The Kit Kat is crunchy and it’s chocolate. What’s not to like? You get the smooth, richness of the chocolate and the crispy crunchiness of the wafer. It hits every flavor and texture note you could want.
Is Twix one of the best candy bars?
Twix are cookies. They are. Yes, they are candy bars but if you put them in the cookie aisle at the grocery store, no one would be mad about it.
While it may have chocolate and caramel like any good candy bar, the shortbread biscuit makes it the cookie. It even says cookie bar on the packaging! But let’s forget that hill I’m willing to die on and talk about the goodness that is Twix.
It’s another candy bar where you get more than one piece in the wrapper which is the most satisfying thing ever. Would one be enough? Sure, but we’re talking about chocolate here. One is never enough. So the geniuses at Mars gave us two!
The candy bar was first created in the UK in 1967 under the name, Raider. It soon came to the US in 1979, but the name didn’t change until 1991. While the bar wasn’t originally as popular as it is today, it now sells approximately 43 million pieces per year.
Some of the popularity has to be because of how different it is from other candy bars. The cookie layer is not something you find in most other bars and it gives it a buttery flavor and crunchy texture that is hard not to love.
The chocolate and caramel just makes it that much better (as chocolate and caramel often do). The caramel makes it gooey and melty and the chocolate gives it a little bit more snap and…well, it’s chocolate.
Are Reese Peanut Butter Cups one of the best candy bars?
It’s peanut butter and chocolate. I mean, come on, it’s a classic for a reason. It’s a match made in heaven and one of the reasons we know the combination is so perfect is because of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups.
This is another candy bar where you get two pieces. You eat one delicious chocolate peanut butter cup and you think, yes that was great, but I wish I had another one. Welp, you do because two come in a pack. I don’t know who decides how many pieces/bars come in a package, but they clearly know what they’re doing with candy bars.
For me, the best part of a Reese’s Cup is the difference in textures. The crispness of the chocolate and the smoothness of the peanut butter completely works and it’s been working for a long time.
Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were first introduced in 1928 and were immediately popular. The flavor combination wasn’t anything new to the public but the candy bar has a unique flavor to it that’s different than just peanut butter and chocolate simply mixed together.
The peanuts are roasted before they are made into peanut butter. This process was originally a malfunction of a machine. A mistake that would end up making one of the most popular candy bars ever.
Now Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups come in all kinds of different forms. Reese’s Cups, Reese’s in Santa, Christmas tree, and egg shapes, and even bunny-shaped Reese’s. It’s become a piece of pop culture at this point.
Is Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds one of the best candy bars?
The Hershey’s bar is a classic candy bar. I’m specifically including the Hershey with Almonds bar mainly because it’s my favorite. Yep, I’m 100% biased.
Chocolate and nuts are a perfect combination. The creaminess of the chocolate and the crunchiness of the almonds works on so many levels. Chocolate and almonds may not be as classic a combination as chocolate and peanut butter but it goes together just as well.
Sure, a Hershey’s bar on its own is good. But with just chocolate, there isn’t a texture difference that you get when you add the almonds into the mix. The difference in textures between the chocolate and the almonds just makes it…*chef’s kiss*
Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds was introduced in 1908, a few years after the original bar was created. And just like the original bar, it comes in a slab that you can break up into little squares.
It makes it last longer which is always a good thing when it comes to chocolate and makes it easier to eat. And, although this might just be me, it’s just fun to break up the bar and eat it in small pieces.
The Hershey’s Milk Chocolate with Almonds bar was so popular that it eventually came out in other flavors like dark chocolate, white chocolate, and with cranberries and blueberries. If you haven’t had one in a while, now is the time!
Is 3 Musketeers one of the best candy bars?
3 Musketeers is definitely another classic candy bar. It’s probably been around for most of our lives and been a staple in just about any kid’s Halloween haul. If you don’t get at least one fun-size 3 Musketeer bar, is it even really Halloween?
The candy bar consists of a soft, fluffy nougat mouse that’s whipped with egg whites to make it the perfect light texture and is covered with a chocolate shell.
It’s very basic but very good. Really, when you surround anything with chocolate it makes it pretty good!. The basicness definitely represents the time it was made in. First introduced in 1932, the 3 Musketeers bar was the third candy bar ever created by the Mars Company.
Originally, it came in three different flavors: vanilla, chocolate, and strawberry. Over the years, only the chocolate remained. This was mainly due to sugar rationing in WWII and Mars had to choose which of the three to make so they went with the chocolate. Excellent choice!
While this has not always been one of my favorites (I was much more interested in anything with peanut butter or that was sour as a kid), it has grown on me over the years and now I would not say no to one. And clearly, I’m not alone because Mars sells millions of the nougat-filled candy every year.
Is Milky Way one of the best candy bars?
The Milky Way bar is another classic because of its taste and its simplicity. The bar consists of a layer of nougat topped with caramel and then the whole thing is covered in chocolate. It’s similar to the 3 Musketeers bar, it just happens to have caramel and the nougat isn’t as fluffy.
The Milky Way was first created in 1924 and was the first candy bar ever made by the Mars Company. What a way to start!
When it first came out, there were two varieties: the chocolate one we all know and love and a vanilla nougat version that had a dark chocolate coating. The chocolate nougat clearly won out as the more popular but the vanilla version eventually turned into Milky Way Dark and then Milky Way Midnight.
The Milky Way is definitely one of those candy bars you eat for a while. The chewiness of the nougat and the caramel ensures it’s definitely sticking to your teeth whether you want it to or not. But the snap of the chocolate and the gooey, chewy inside is what’s made it last almost 100 years.
The Milky Way is also another one of those candy bars that you see a ton of on Halloween. I remember getting a bunch of them in the pillowcase I used as my trick-or-treat bag.
But whether you’re eating the fun-size bar out of your kid’s Halloween stash or picking one up while you’re checking out at the grocery store, a Milky Way never lets you down in the flavor department.
Is Butterfinger one of the best candy bars?
Full disclosure: this is my mom’s favorite candy bar of all time. If it wasn’t included, I’d be in trouble. It was definitely always around the house when I was growing up and I remember sneaking 3-4 fun size ones from the candy bowl during Halloween. And don’t get me started on a Butterfinger blizzard. Is there anything more delicious?
The Butterfinger is definitely in a class of its own. Yes, it has chocolate, but that’s about all it has in common with the other candy bars on this list. Butterfingers consist of a crispy, flaky peanut butter middle that is enrobed in chocolate.
In a world where chocolate and peanut butter are common, the Butterfinger makes that classic combination unique with the way they put it together. You’re not likely to see peanut butter flake anywhere else like it does in this candy bar.
If you don’t have a pile of chocolate and peanut butter debris on your shirt after eating one, you probably didn’t do it right.
The Butterfinger was first created in 1923 in Chicago by the Curtiss Candy Company. They actually had a contest where the public would send in ideas of what to name the candy bar and Butterfinger was the winning name. Nestle now makes the popular candy bar.
No matter who owns the rights, it’s clearly a popular bar. You don’t stick around for almost 100 years without people liking the product.
Is Almond Joy one of the best candy bars?
Time for coconut! Just based on the ingredients alone, what’s not to love about an Almond Joy? It’s milk chocolate, sweetened, shredded coconut, and whole almonds. You get the sweet, the creamy, and the crunch all in one bar.
Chocolate and coconut may not be as popular or as well-known as chocolate and caramel or chocolate and peanut butter, but it is just as delicious. The sweet, crisp freshness of the coconut feels like it was made to be covered in rich milk chocolate.
The hint of bitterness that chocolate has (yes, even milk chocolate) cuts the sweetness of the coconut and makes it oh so good!
While I was not a coconut fan as a kid and openly despised this bar anytime my dad was eating one, I have grown and changed my ways and now love it.
The almond-coconut candy bar was first made in 1946 by the Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company, a company that was created by Armenian immigrants in 1919. The company was acquired by Cadbury and then the rights to the Almond Joy were eventually sold to Hershey’s who makes it today.
It was created as a replacement for the Dream Bar which had similar ingredients but had diced coconut instead of shredded. Why they changed it is unclear, but if the sales (46.5 million in 2017) and the love for the Almond Joy are any indications, it was clearly the right choice.
Is Mounds one of the best candy bars?
Speaking of coconut and chocolate! Mounds is the original candy bar that brought chocolate and coconut together. The candy consists of shredded sweetened coconut that is then covered in dark chocolate. It’s just like an Almond Joy just without the almonds.
The coconut and chocolate bar was created in 1920 and used to cost five cents for a piece. It was first invented by a man named Vincent Nitido but was then bought by the Peter Paul Candy Manufacturing Company who produced it for the masses. It was named Mounds because of its shape.
Once WWII began, the shortage of sugar and coconut affected the production of the candy bar but the Peter Paul Candy Company went to the Caribbean for coconut instead and used small ships to avoid being attacked by German warships.
And instead of skimping on the quality of the Mounds bar, the company got rid of many of the other candies they were making to focus on Mounds. That’s dedication!
It wasn’t until the 1980s that Hershey’s acquired the brand and began making the candy bar we know and love today. If almonds aren’t your thing or you just prefer a smooth texture, the Mounds bar is where it’s at!
Like many other candy bars, when the holidays come around, Mounds come in egg shapes for Easter and in miniature sizes perfect for stockings around the holidays.
Is Baby Ruth one of the best candy bars?
When I was growing up, Baby Ruth’s were my thing. If I had made a list of the top five candy bars of all time when I was like 10, Baby Ruth would have been very close to the top. What’s not to like? It’s made of peanuts, caramel, milk-chocolate-flavored nougat, and it’s all covered in chocolate. Are you drooling because I definitely am!
It’s like everything you love from other candy bars all combined into one. But Baby Ruth wasn’t always named that. It first started out as Kandy Kake and was sold by Curtiss Candy Company. It only became Baby Ruth in 1921 when it was rebranded and that’s when the peanuts, caramel, and chocolate were added. What was the Kandy Kake? Just nougat?
How the bar got the name of Baby Ruth is a bit of a mystery. The Curtiss Candy Company first said it was named after the daughter of former president Grover Cleveland. But this is disputed based on the fact that the candy company was on the same street as Wrigley Field and that they must have taken inspiration from Babe Ruth who was very popular at the time.
As the years have passed, whether they like it or not, the candy bar has merged its image with the famous baseball player. It doesn’t hurt that the colors of the wrapper are very baseball-ish.
Whatever the reason for the name, I’m just glad this combination of chocolate, caramel, nuts, and nougat exists and that we all get to enjoy it!
Is PayDay one of the best candy bars?
Ok, it’s impossible for me to be unbiased about the PayDay candy bar. It is my favorite candy bar of all time. While I love some chocolate, the saltiness of the peanuts and the sweetness of the nougat caramel make a perfect combination and make me crave it like nothing else.
As stated above, the bar is made of a caramel nougat center that is then rolled and covered in salted peanuts. It’s the equivalent of salted caramel or chocolate-covered pretzels. The salty-sweet combination can not be beaten. Our taste buds love it!
The PayDay bar was first introduced in 1932 when it was created by Frank Martoccio who founded F.A. Martoccio Macaroni Company which turned into the Hollywood Candy Company in 1933. The bar is now made (as most candy is) by the Hershey’s company.
But how did the bar get its name? It’s pretty simple. The bar originally came out on payday at the Hollywood Candy Company. Sometimes, product names are creative or based on market research, and sometimes, they just happen in the moment.
While I am clearly a huge fan of the PayDay bar, I am not the only one who loves it. It was named the number three candy bar in the 2019 LA Times Candy Bar Power Rankings.
Is Crunch Bar one of the best candy bars?
Here we are back at another classic. The Crunch Bar. This bar makes me think of overpriced movie snacks or if your parents were sneaky like mine, going to the local 7-11, buying all the candy you could afford, and sneaking it into the movie theater.
I don’t know why the Crunch Bar makes me think of the movie theater, but I definitely remember seeing it there more than anywhere else.
The Crunch Bar is a classic for many reasons but one of them is its very basic ingredients. It’s made of milk chocolate and crisped rice. That’s it! And yet it’s delicious. This is another one of those bars that plays with texture in the most satisfying way. The crunch of the rice against the smoothness of the milk chocolate works so well.
The bar was first created in 1928. It was known as the Crunch Bar in the US but was called the Dairy Crunch in the UK. It wasn’t until the 1990s when the name changed to Crunch Bar in the UK too. Dairy Crunch just…does not sound good. I get it, but…no.
While the candy bar was originally made by Nestle, they sold the rights to the bar in 2018 to Ferraro, the same people who make Nutella and my beloved Ferrero Rochers. A subsidiary of Ferraro, Ferrara Candy Company, now makes the Crunch Bar.
Is 100 Grand Bar one of the best candy bars?
The 100 Grand Bar, formerly known as the $100,000 bar until the 1980s, is pretty similar to the Crunch bar, it just happens to have caramel which makes all the difference. It has a stretchy caramel center and is encased in milk chocolate mixed with crisped rice.
This bar may have a few of the same ingredients as the Crunch Bar but it is much newer. The 100 Grand Bar was first created in 1964 by Nestle.
But, as with the Crunch bar, Nestle sold the rights to the 100 Grand Bar to Ferrero in 2018 and is now made by their subsidiary, the Ferrara Candy Company. At first, Ferrero could keep the Nestle name on the bars, but after a year, they took the name off the label.
With its bright red, white, and yellow packaging, the 100 Grand stands out in the candy aisle against all the blue, silver, and black wrappers.
This is one of the few candy bars that never came on my radar as a kid. I saw it at the grocery store and got it on Halloween but I never tried it. I think maybe the name made me think it was for adults. Or maybe because they didn’t advertise on Disney or Nickelodeon, I just assumed it wasn’t for me.
Now, as an adult, I am all over it. An outer shell like a Crunch Bar and caramel in the middle? Yes, please! I will take two.
Is Nutrageous one of the best candy bars?
Ok, get ready for a rant. A happy rant because this was my number one favorite candy bar as a kid. If they were in the house, I was eating them and I was eating them all. Why? Let’s look at the ingredients.
The Nutrageous consists of Reese’s peanut butter, roasted peanuts, and caramel. It’s then covered in chocolate. It’s like a child’s dream. Or a sweet tooth’s dream and I definitely have one of those.
Peanut butter and chocolate and caramel and nuts?!?!? Do I need to say more? If you are a peanut butter and chocolate lover, this is the candy bar you want.
The fact that they aren’t around as much anymore is a tragedy. You can buy them in big packs on Amazon and might be able to find them at a store or two, but anywhere else doesn’t seem to have them. Let’s all cry together for the loss of this amazing candy bar.
The bar was first created in 1994 as a unique spin on the Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup by the Reese’s division of the Hershey’s company. The bar was almost named Acclaim but was quickly changed before release when a focus group (made up of mainly kids) said they liked the Nutrageous name much better. Obviously, they were correct.
Is Hershey’s Cookies n’ Creme bar one of the best candy bars?
Would you like Oreos in a candy bar form? That is pretty much what the Hershey’s Cookies n’ Creme bar is. I remember when this first came out I was obsessed with it. Oreos in a candy bar? Yes, please! Who wouldn’t like that?
This is also the one candy bar where I actually like white chocolate. I don’t know how that works but with this, it just…works! Although technically it’s not white chocolate anymore, it’s like a confection but we don’t need to get technical here. It started as white chocolate but has since been changed to a white confection.
Mixed into the “chocolate” are chocolate cookies that resemble Oreos. Obviously, the white chocolate is meant to represent the cream inside an Oreo AKA the best part.
The candy bar was first introduced in 1995 by The Hershey Company and has been around since then. I don’t know if it was officially the first time white chocolate was on the market, but it was definitely the first time I had it. and it’s certainly the first time it was in something that was in so many stores. The ingredient kind of blew up after that.
This candy bar has become so popular that in 2013, General Mills made a cereal out of it. Only the most popular candy gets that treatment i.e. Reese’s Cups and Reese’s Puffs.
Is Mr. Goodbar one of the best candy bars?
If you lived in the US for a good portion of your life, there is an almost 100% chance you’ve either bought or seen a bag of mini chocolate candy bars and that it had a Mr. Goodbar in it. I don’t know if I’ve ever seen a full-size Mr. Goodbar, but the mini ones are everywhere and they’re delicious.
Mr. Goodbar is pretty simple. It consists of peanuts and milk chocolate and comes in an instantly identifiable yellow and red wrapper. It was one of Hershey’s first new candy bars in 1925. Hershey’s with Almonds had already been a hit so why not try peanuts next?
During WWII, the bar was marketed as a way to get a nutritious lunch that would fill you up. During the war, there was rationing so you weren’t always full at the end of the day. This chocolate bar would help (supposedly).
The “nutritional” chocolate bar label stuck into the 1960s and Mr. Goodbar was even advertised as an energy bar for a while after the war. I mean, sure, you’ll get some energy from the sugar, but after that, you’re going to crash.
Of the Hershey’s miniatures, Mr. Goodbar is definitely my favorite. Peanuts and chocolate were made to go together and if it can’t be peanut butter, this is the next best thing.
Is Heath bar one of the best candy bars?
The Heath bar is another classic candy bar that appears in all kinds of places. Whether it be cookies, ice cream, or other candy, the Heath bar has gone well beyond simply being enjoyed as a candy. If you haven’t tried a Heath bar Blizzard, you need to fix that immediately.
The bar is made of toffee and almonds that are covered in milk chocolate. It’s also wider and thinner than most other bars. Since it’s so crunchy, if it was any thicker, it would be hard to eat.
The candy bar was first created in the 1920s by L.S. Heath and was originally a small square bar instead of the long one we know today. They first received the toffee recipe in 1915 — they actually bought it off a salesman — but they then messed with the recipe to make it the one that became so popular.
The bar was originally called Heath English Toffee but was changed to simply Heath bar in the late 1920s. After the Heath brothers, the recipe for the bar was bought by Leaf Inc. and then Hershey’s in 1996 when it took over Leaf Inc.

Is Reese’s Take 5 one of the best candy bars?
The Reese’s Take 5 is one of the best candy bars ever made. Why? Mainly because of its ingredients. It’s made of five ingredients, hence the 5 in the name. It includes caramel, peanut butter, peanuts, and pretzels, and is covered in chocolate. Can you think of anything better? It’s practically a trail mix in bar form. Yum!
The Reese’s Take 5 bar (also known as the Max 5 in Canada) was first created by Hershey’s in 2004 making it one of the youngest candy bars on the list. It was first simply called Take 5 but was soon renamed Reese’s Take 5 so people would focus on the Reese’s peanut butter that they already knew and loved.
It’s like they said “what 5 foods work perfectly together” and made a candy bar out of it. Chocolate and peanut butter? Perfect. Chocolate and caramel? A classic.
Chocolate and pretzels? The best. Peanut butter and pretzels? Surprisingly good. Peanuts and pretzels? Delicious based on every snack mix ever. And of course, chocolate and peanuts always work. Whoever put this bar together is a flavor genius.
It also doesn’t hurt that the gooeyness of the peanut butter and caramel is the perfect contrast to the crunchiness of the peanuts and pretzels.
I haven’t had this bar in quite a few years and that needs to be fixed immediately. Since my beloved Nutrageous is so hard to find, Reese’s Take 5 is going to be my new go-to when I hit up the candy aisle.
Is Snickers Peanut Butter one of the best candy bars?
We’ve talked about the greatness that is Snickers, but now we need to talk about its younger sister, the Snickers Peanut Butter. Cue the angel chorus. This bar contains nougat, peanut butter, and caramel and is covered in chocolate. Have you fainted? Should I get the smelling salts?
When the first Snickers Peanut Butter bar came out is a little complicated. The first one came out in 1960 when the candy makers mixed peanut butter into the nougat. The new versions we see in grocery stores came out in 2010 and then again a few years later in different varieties.
There is a creamy Snickers Peanut Butter and a crunchy Snickers Peanut Butter. It all depends on what you like. There is also a difference in shape. There is the original long rectangle shape that the regular Snickers comes in and then there is the square shape.
Snickers Peanut Butter Squared gives you two square-shaped pieces of the candy bar in one package. Just like with Reese’s Cups where you get two of a good thing, the squared line gives you two halves of a Snickers so you can save one for later…or shove them both in your mouth at the same time.

Dark chocolate candy bars
This is a more general one, but as a dark chocolate lover, all the candy bars in dark chocolate are an absolute godsend. Whether it be dark chocolate KitKats, dark chocolate Reese’s peanut butter cups, dark chocolate Twix, or a dark chocolate Milk Way, the dark, bitter chocolate is just as good, if not better than the originals.
Changing the type of chocolate of some of the most popular candy bars is a fairly new trend. It definitely wasn’t happening before the 2000s. But luckily, dark chocolate became popular with consumers and candy companies caught on and decided to give us even more choices in the candy aisle.
And dark chocolate is healthy for you, right? The health benefits probably decrease with the addition of nougat, caramel, and sugar, but it’s still a little bit healthy, right? Or at least better than milk or white chocolate? Well, whatever the health benefits are (if there are any), most of us aren’t really worried about them when we’re craving a candy bar.
Some of the other dark chocolate candy bars you can find in the candy aisle include a Hershey’s dark chocolate bar, dark chocolate Butterfingers, dark chocolate 3 Musketeers (although it also comes in a mint flavor), and dark chocolate Snickers.
Is Whatchamacallit one of the best candy bars?
The Whatchamacallit bar first started out being made of only peanut butter crisp with a thin chocolate covering but in 1987, the recipe was changed and the bar became what we know and love today. The new recipe added caramel into the mix with peanut butter crisps and chocolate.
Adding caramel to peanut butter and chocolate is never a bad decision. It’s certainly not going to make it taste bad!
The bar was first invented in1978 and was manufactured by Hershey’s. It was named by a woman named Sallie Grayson. She was in charge of new brands for Hershey’s account and came up with Whatchamacallit.
The bar is called Hershey’s Special Crisp in Canada but it doesn’t have the same wide distribution as the bar has in the US. While the candy is still made today, it’s harder to find than it used to be.
Over the years, Hershey has come out with similar bars to the Whatchamacallit, but none of them has lasted as long as the original bar has. The Thingamajig which included cocoa crisps, peanut butter, and chocolate was first created in 2009 but isn’t made anymore.
The Whozeewhatzit is the latest bar added to this candy line. It was introduced in 2021 and includes cocoa crisps, crisped rice, peanut butter, and chocolate. Fans came up with the name, but we’ll have to see how long it sticks around.
Is Krackel one of the best candy bars?
Krackel is another one of those bars you might have only seen in a bag of Hershey’s miniature bars. I remember my grandma having a bowl of them every time I went to her house and the red and white wrapper of the Krackel bars standing out among the Hershey’s bars and the Mr. Goodbars. Now, I probably only see them during Halloween.
The Krackel bar consists of milk chocolate and crisped rice. Such simple ingredients and yet so good! It was first created in 1938 and originally had almonds in it and then it was changed to peanuts in 1939. By 1941, both nuts were removed and replaced with crispy rice balls.
While I have only ever seen Krackel in its miniature form, it was sold as an individual big bar from 1938 until 1997. After that, it was only available in the mini form. It wasn’t until 2014 when the individual bar was made available again. But now, once again, the full-size bar is no longer available. Make up your mind, Hershey’s!
Is it very similar to Nestle’s Crunch bar? Absolutely. They are definitely each other’s competitors, but with its wider availability, Crunch is definitely winning in that department. They are made of very similar ingredients but some people still favor one over the other.
Is Reese’s Fast Break one of the best candy bars?
The Reese’s Fast Break is one of those candy bars that you either know about and love more than life or that you’ve never heard of. I was lucky enough to be around when it was first introduced and know the Fast Break’s amazingness.
The bar consists of peanut butter and chocolate nougat and is covered in milk chocolate. With these ingredients, it’s impossible for this candy bar to be bad. You have the classic combo of chocolate and peanut butter. Add in some nougat and it all works together.
The Reese’s Fast Break was first introduced in late 2001 in the U.S. It was also available in Canada but it went by the name Hershey Sidekick. When the bar first came out, it had blue packaging with orange letters.
A couple of years later, Hershey’s reversed the colors so the packaging was orange much like its other Reese’s products. With this change, they also amped up the peanut butter flavor too.
Unfortunately, Reese’s Fast Break is also, another candy bar that is still around but is very hard to find. You can order a box of them on Amazon or find them in a party mix with other Reese’s candy, but they really aren’t available in many other places. So if you find one, grab it while you can!
Is M&M’s Milk Chocolate Bar one of the best candy bars?
The M&M’s candy bar is still fairly new but combines two things that people love. Chocolate bars and M&Ms. What’s not to like? The bar consists of milk chocolate and mini M&Ms. But that’s just the original flavor. There are as many M&M candy bar flavors as there are flavors of M&M’s.
There’s the peanut M&M candy bar that adds peanuts into the mix, the Real Almonds bar that mixes in almonds (shocking, I know), and there’s the Crispy M&M bar that includes crispy M&Ms that are filled with crisp rice and comes in the original flavor and the mint flavor.
If you love M&M’s and are looking for a different way to eat them, this is the perfect candy bar for you. Instead of popping them into your mouth one at a time, you can simply take a bite of the bar to get your fill of your favorite candy.
This bar was first introduced in 2004 and called the M-azing bar. In 2013, they relaunched the bar but changed the name to M&M’s Milk Chocolate Bar. The packaging of the two is vastly different with the newer bar having the M&M’s characters on each one, but they are generally the same ingredients. This time we just got more flavors. Lucky us!
