Celebrate National Donut Day even if you don’t like donuts with Jelly Donut Oreos

Friday June 2 is National Donut Day and in honor of that event, Oreo is releasing limited edition Jelly Donut Oreos.

Say you like the idea of donuts, especially jelly-filled donuts, but try as you might, you just don’t actually like the fried dough delight. Well, then, boy, does Oreo have the solution for you. To celebrate National Donut Day, Oreo is releasing their much-anticipated Jelly Donut Oreos, i.e., donut-flavored cookies, on sale exclusively at Walmart.

The Jelly Donut Oreo features golden Oreo cookies and a two rings of creme filling. The outer layer tastes like custard and the inner like raspberry.

You may remember the flavor from last year. Jelly Donut Oreos were runner up to Cookies and Creme Oreos in a competition that saw Walmart fans vote on which flavors they wanted to see produced and sold exclusively at the store. They chose Cookies and Creme, which is a whole other conversation, and people were so upset that Walmart arranged for Jelly Donut Oreos too.

As far as limited edition Oreo flavors go, Jelly Donut ranks about middle of the pack for appeal and excitement. Yes, clearly, a great many people were passionate about the donut flavor. But any Oreo involving a golden Oreo cookie has an inherent ceiling to the success it can achieve. Jelly Donut Oreos are enticing enough for a spontaneous, grab-if-you-see-it purchase, but they don’t quite call for a Walmart trip post-haste.

And then, of course, there’s the matter of the national holiday. Are you really going to go for Oreos when you could enjoy the real thing? For free? At least for Friday, it’s only right to make your way to Dunkin’ Donuts or Krispy Kreme for some actual jam-infused fried dough.
