Celebrate National Iced Tea Day with ice cold, refreshing freebies

June 10 is the day to celebrate National Iced Tea Day. Whether you like Southern sweet tea or fruit-infused tea, enjoy a refreshing, cold, iced tea this Saturday.

The tea or coffee debate has gone on for ages. Even more debated is sweet or unsweetened tea. Southerners prefer the particularly sweet form of iced tea. Other tea drinkers prefer a less sugary version. On June 10, raise a glass of any iced tea to celebrate National Iced Tea Day.

One of the most famous stories about iced tea dates back to the World Fair 1904 in St. Louis. During the World Fair, the weather became quite hot. To help cool off the many World Fair visitors, a local tea merchant sold chilled tea drinks. Everyone enjoyed this refreshing beverage.

Now, iced tea is a staple in restaurants, stores and homes. From specialty beverage stores to big box store shelves, the choices of ice tea are many.

Tea has grown in popularity because tea contains many antioxidants. Many studies state that a tea has more antioxidants than fruits and vegetables. All the antioxidants are another good reason to raise a glass of iced tea on National Iced Tea Day.

Like many national food holidays, several stores are celebrating iced tea. These five establishments are offering some freebies to celebrate iced tea.

1. DAVIDsTEA
At all DAVIDsTEA stories, customers can get a free tea of the day on Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11. While the tea flavor of the day isn’t specified, options could include Fruity Oasis, Passion Punch and Maracuja Mango. Also, DAVIDsTea offers a free cup of tea on your birthday and a free cup of tea when you sign up for the frequent sipper program.

2. McAlister’s Deli
On June 10, the first 20 guests at each McAlister’s Deli locations will receive a free 32 ounce McAlister tumbler. This promotion is part of the restaurants Iced Tea Month celebration. The new tumblers are specially priced at $9.99 with 99-cent refills. Additionally, McAlister’s Deli will offer free tea all day on June 29. Guests can choose either hot or iced tea on that day.

3. NESTEA
To get people interested in the new NESTEA Real Brew, NESTEA is giving away free product coupons. By signing up online, customers can receive a coupon that can be used for either a free NESTEA iced tea or a discount on a NESTEA six pack.

4. Tervis
Love iced tea and want to show it to everyone? Tervis brick and mortar stores and Tervis.com online are offering a buy one get on free offer for National Iced Tea Day. Purchase a tea design tumbler and receive another tumbler for free. Tervis has 46 brick and mortar throughout the U.S.

5. Teavana
At participating Teavana stores, guests can receive a free iced tea to go. The offer is available on June 10 from 10 a.m. till 2 p.m. According to the Starbucks newsroom, stores will be offering a free 24-ounce Beach Bellini. Guests may be required to watch a demo for the Perfect Tea Maker. The Beach Bellini tea blends flavors of papaya, pineapple and citrus in a tropical iced tea.
