We regret to inform you hot dogs are bad now
Marathon Enterprises has issued a recall for Sabrett, Nathan’s Private Label and Katz’s Delicatessen beef and pork hot dogs.
There’s a meme on the internet in which something takes everyone’s collective fancy and shortly after it is revealed that that person, brand or inanimate object is, in fact, racist, sexist, homophobic or otherwise Bad. And lo, so it is with hot dogs. Or at least, approximately 7.1 million pounds of meat involved in a hot dog recall by Marathon Enterprises.
The company issued a recall for beef and pork hot dogs as well as as sausage and salami sold under the brands Sabrett, Papaya King, 1906 Premium, Western Beef and Stew Leonard’s. Apparently, consumers found bits of bone and cartilage in the meat.
Hot dogs are a fantastic food, but they top the list of foods that you don’t ever want to think about too much — you don’t really want to know what’s in them. Usually, however, whatever is in hot dogs that you don’t want to know about is certified edible. Bones and cartilage are very much things that you don’t know want to know are in your hot dogs because they expressly should not be in your hot dogs.
Well, if you’ve bought any hot dogs (or salami or sausage) recently from a Marathon Enterprise brand that’s going to be a problem. Here’s a complete list of recalled products to compare to whatever is in your fridge at the moment.
It’s also quite concerning that Sabrett, one of the affected brands, is prominently sold in arenas and concert venues as well as street vendors in New York City, according to Delish.

And so, we must encourage you to abstain from hot dogs, especially any involved in the recall.
That, or just switch to another brand like Chicago’s beloved Vienna Beef.
