Buckle up for the latest fast food innovation sweeping the nation. It’s bizarre but it might end up being the next social-gram trend that makes old people upset about Millennial wasting time being weird.

Let’s just cut right to the chase here. For some reason it has become in vogue to place your McDonald’s hamburger on top of the lid of your soft drink and jam a straw through it. The purpose of which is unknown although the execution is clear.

It’s a phenomenon sweeping Japan and it’s only a matter of time before it completes global domination.

To be fair, it’s probably only a matter of time before this washes up on the shores of America and becomes the next Instagram fad here. Historically, things that seem outrageous here but are popular in Japan usually evolve into being cool here well after the fact. Whether it’s video game culture, crazy game shows or whatever, some of the most bizarre pop culture trends originate in Japan.
