Orange is the New Black – KFC

While it is an undeniably great show, Orange is the New Black can sometimes be pretty hard to watch. Although generally mixed with a lot of profoundly funny material, the show’s tortured romances, shocking character deaths and sometimes incredibly bleak plot developments can make for some emotionally draining viewing. Especially when consumed in large quantities as you might do during a new season binge-watch. To properly blunt the impact of a 13-hour visit to Litchfield Penitentiary, it’s a good idea to stock up on Kentucky-fried comfort food.

Admittedly, KFC isn’t the most obvious fast food pairing for Orange is the New Black. If you want to tie into the foods seen on the show, you’d probably lay out a spread that included cold cut sandwiches from Subway, six dollar burgers from Carl’s Jr. and some McDonald’s cookies carved into obscene shapes. But while the tie-in aspect of such a feast would be fun, it wouldn’t provide the emotional support needed to help you endure an entire season of Orange is the New Black.

On other hand, no matter what crushing circumstances befall Piper (Taylor Schilling), Alex (Laura Prepon), Suzanne (Uzo Aduba) and the rest, they’ll be a lot easier to deal with when paired with some of KFC’s best offerings. Grab a bucket of regular or extra crispy chicken, heaps of mashed potatoes and gravy, macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, corn and freshly baked biscuits. The starch-heavy, nostalgia-inducing cuisine will really make the inequity and relentless brutality of life in an overpopulated prison much more bearable.
