May 28 is the day of the brisket, National Brisket Day, but how do you make a brisket? What is the secret behind making the dish?

No doubt you have heard of brisket. If you are a fan of The Big Bang Theory you certainly have. Wolowitz would rave about his mother’s brisket. But do you know how to make a brisket? Well if not, you are in luck. I don’t either, but that is what we are going to find on this National Brisket Day.

The first question that needs to be answered. What is brisket? Does the meat come from cow, pig, chicken? Is it the leg, the shoulder, the brain?

Well, brisket is a cut of meat from either the lower chest or breast of either veal or beef.

So now that we have that out of the way let’s move onto how to cook the meat.

Generally, you oven roast the meat like you would a whole chicken or leg of lamb. However, you can also cook a brisket in other ways such as smoking a brisket or slow cooking one.

How long you cook the meat for is going to depend on a few factors. Weight being the most obvious one. The heavier the cut of meat the longer you will need to cook the dish for, but, how well done you like your meat will become a factor as well.
