The end of an era has arrived, Subway has decided to call it a day on it’s $5 footlong deal that has been around since 2004.

I suppose it was only a matter of time before it happened, but Subway has decided that the iconic $5 footlong deal that has been around for over ten years must come to an end.

It’s not all doom and gloom however because it is down to individual franchise owners whether they stop the dal or not. CEO Trevor Haynes explained that it is no longer a mandatory offer and individual franchise owners have the option to choose if they want to give customers the deal or not. So, you may find the odd Subway store who still has the offer running.

The problem is they will be few and far between.

Franchisees have not been overly pleased with the $5 footlong deal for some time now. With many believing the deal is financially unstable, calls to have the offer removed have been made for some time now. Over 400 owners signed a petition calling for it to be removed, or at the least changed, and it clearly made an impact based on the decision Subway has now made.

So, while you technically may find the odd branch offering the deal, it is more than likely you can count the number of them doing it on one hand.

Whether a new deal will come to replace the $5 footlong remains to be seen. Fans of the sandwich shop would certainly hope something would come in its place. it would extremely unfair to remove the deal, but put something its place.
