Number 2: When coffee was almost band!
Rounding up those teaser examples I gave about unique coffee facts in the opening slide. The time when coffee was almost band.
So, this happened way back in the 17th century. Coffee was still new, people were still getting used to the idea of this drink that gave you a boost of energy. Many took to it in leaps and bounds, and as you would expect, the coffee business got off to a booming start once everyone realized the effects it had on you.
However, this new phenomenon of Coffee, while celebrated and enjoyed by many, was also hit by resistance as well.
Mainly by women. Why? Because only men were allowed to enter a coffee house and have a cup of the newly discovered liquid wonder drug.
Because of its popularity, a lot of men failed to come home. They spent most their time in coffee houses, enjoying the pleasures of the stimulant while also getting some much-needed work done. This didn’t go down very well with their wives and before you knew it. A petition had been gathered calling on a ban.
The proposal laid out that men became ‘useless corpses’ and that only those over the age of 60 should be allowed to drink coffee.
I have no idea why the over 60’s where allowed but that is what the petition aimed to achieve back when coffee was first introduced to the world.
