MIAMI, FL – JULY 11: A Papa John’s restaurant is seen on July 11, 2018 in Miami, Florida. The founder of Papa John’s pizza, John Schnatter, apologized Wednesday for using the N-word on a conference call in May. (Photo by Joe Raedle/Getty Images) /

25. Papa John’s Pizza

Claim to fame: Pizza, of course!

The Reason:

Man, how hard has Papa John’s fallen?

In other years, it would be considered clinically insane to rank Papa John’s this low, but in the past few years, what was once America’s favorite pizza chain is going through a mighty tough time.

Their founder and spokesperson was fired for using the N-word and after that, the chain started going through a rebranding that is eating away at the company’s profits. It was a long sledding downward for a pizza chain that once couldn’t do any wrong.

To add injury to insult, their main rivals — Domino’s and Pizza Hut — have really upped their games on the pizza front, further eroding the dominant advantage Papa once had. Granted, the pizza is still good (depending on your local Papa), but the controversies surrounding the chain are really taking a toll on the company. To be honest, it’s sad seeing Papa fall so far and so hard, but they did it to themselves, so I can only extend so much sympathy.

Will they achieve that? Nobody knows. However, they need to try a little harder, because we’re at the point where we can’t imagine a world without Papa John’s, which is why I had to rank them.

Best menu item: The Works

It has everything! Pepperoni, Canadian bacon, spicy Italian sausage, onions, black olives, mushrooms, and green pepper. Seriously, it’s their best pizza, and it’s well worth the price.

Worst menu item: Tuscan Six Cheese

I have one question for the Papa John’s execs about this pizza; Why? It doesn’t have a lot of flavors, and I recommend that they replace this pizza, ASAP.
