SAN FRANCISCO, CA – NOVEMBER 03: A McRib sign is seen at a McDonald’s restaurant on November 3, 2010 in San Francisco, California. The sandwich arrived on the menu for the first time since 1994 and is offered at all McDonald’s nationwide for a limited time until December 5, 2010. The McRib was first introduced in 1981. 15. McRib — McDonald’s

Personal omission: I have long been a proponent of making the McRib a year-round menu item.

Alas, that hasn’t materialized, yet, but the McRib, a rib-like (it isn’t a real rib) meat smothered in BBQ sauce and topped with pickles and onion, appearing on the menu board is a true sign that the holidays have arrived.

The McRib is, quite possibly, one of Mickey D’s more popular menu items, which is why they should make it available throughout the year. I mean, there is no other fast-food chain out there that has a sandwich that can hold a candle to the McRib. The Whopper? It’s good, but it’s no McRib. Dave’s Burgers? Again, nice flavor, but, it’s no McRib. I guess, what I’m trying to say is, short of taking a slab or ribs and putting it between two sandwich slices, there is nothing, and I mean nothing, that can compete with the tangy, sticky, messy part-time sandwich.

It’s one of the more popular menu items of the holiday season, and it is a shame that it’s only available for the holidays. McDonald’s, if you’re reading this, please make the McRib a year-round item.

A person can dream, right?
