5. Pork Store Cafe — San Francisco, CA

San Francisco’s restaurant scene has grown to become one of the best in the world.

There is a myriad of places in this magical town that are worthy of being on this list, but, sadly, we could only pick one, and the restaurant that gets the honor is Pork Store Cafe.

Situated in The Haight, Pork Store Cafe is an institution in this part of San Francisco. Yes, it sits in a trendy area of the city (which part hasn’t become trendy in San Francisco?), but this restaurant has the look and feel of a place that hasn’t changed much in the years, and for most locals, that’s a satisfying thing.

Pork Store Cafe mainly serves breakfast, and man, do they do breakfast well. The go-to item here is the corned beef hash, which according to one Yep reviewer was “the best-corned beef hash I’ve ever had.” Knowing that there are scores of other restaurants in the San Francisco Bay Area alone that serves corned beef hash, that is a huge statement.

While they have the traditional breakfast staples, this is San Francisco, so there are breakfast creations at Pork Store Cafe that you can only find here. One of them is the Chicken Apple Sausage, which you can get with a sunny-side egg (or scrambled, if you’re that type of person) and, of course, sourdough toast.

An added bonus for Pork Store Cafe: It’s still relatively affordable. Can’t say the same thing about housing costs, though.
