20 restaurants that will ruin your New Year’s Resolution

15. L&J Cafe — El Paso, TX
Ask anyone in these parts of Texas where the best comfort food is, and most will point you to the L&J Cafe.
Sitting on the border with Mexico, El Paso has a great number of Mexican restaurants, but L&J is something mythical within these parts. When the restaurant first opened in 1927, it wasn’t even L&J. Instead, it was “Tony’s Place,” but that name gave way to the name that it has now. As the name of the restaurant has changed, the comfort Mexican food has not.
All of the staples are served in a hole-in-the-wall like a spot that sits just outside of the revitalized downtown. From the green chili chicken enchiladas to the chili con queso, everything made here at L&J is made with flavor and love. It’s not just a cafe, though. This is also one of El Paso’s prime chill spots, a place where family and friends can come, have some great food and drinks, and just enjoy bonding.
El Paso is often called the “Tex-Mex Capital of the World.” That distinction is debatable (and surely has been in Texas), but what isn’t up for debate is that L&J Cafe is not only one of the best comfort food spots in Texas, but in all of America.
