7. Hoehn’s Bakery — Baltimore MD

Just up the street from Washington, DC sits the underrated city of Baltimore.

Just as its more famous bigger brother to the south, Baltimore is a town that is filled to the brim with great bakeries to grab a slice of cake (or cookies and pies, if that’s more up your ally.), and it was tough to pick just one bakery to represent this city.

While scanning through the Yelp pages, and my own experience, one place routinely caught my eye, Hoehn’s Bakery, which sits in the Highlandtown neighborhood and is an institution in Baltimore.

You can grab just about any baked sweet imaginable a Hoehn’s. There are the chocolate donuts which rivals Krispy Kream. The numerous cakes that would make you want to try them all, and, there’s the legendary peach cake, which one Yelp reviewer called a “Baltimore tradition.” That is a pretty large statement for a peach cake.

While the peach cake is all fine and dandy, one item that one has to try on Chocolate Cake Day is the German chocolate cake. Having personally had one, I can attest that this is one of, if not the best German chocolate cake I’ve ever eater. The chocolate is so rich, and you can just taste the history surrounding this wonderful item.

So, for the folks that need their peach cake, be my guest. For me? I’m going to Hoehn’s and getting the German chocolate cake and putting it in my belly.
