SACRAMENTO, CA – MARCH 25: The skyline of the city is seen as Amtrak’s California Zephyr passes through during its daily 2,438-mile trip to Emeryville/San Francisco from Chicago that takes roughly 52 hours on March 25, 2017 in Sacramento, United States. President Trump has proposed a national budget that would terminate federal support for Amtrak’s long distance train services, which would affect the California Zephyr and other long distance rail lines run by Amtrak. 5. Ettore’s Bakery & Cafe — Sacramento, CA

When someone has a cake from this Sacramento bakery, memories are instantly made.

OK, that may sound dramatic, but it has a lot of truth to it. Ettore’s Bakery & Cafe has been an institution on Fair Oaks Boulevard where many turn to for that special occasion cake. Weddings are their big business here, but the chocolate cake is something that should truly be treasured.

The frosting doesn’t come from a grocery store, oh no. Ettore’s make their frosting in-house, and it’s succulent and rich that it will have you doing a praise dance in the middle of Fair Oaks. For those who may not be into the chocolate cake craze (and it’s odd to see who isn’t?), Ettore’s has a number of other treats that should tempt your heart.

For starters, Ettore’s has Napoleons, which is three layers of pastry that are stuffed with pastry cream and fresh strawberries, kind of like a sandwich. To top it off, the douse it with shaved chocolate. Who in the world can say no to that? I know I can’t, and you probably wouldn’t, either, given the look and the price.

Case in point, if you’re looking for a great bakery in Sacramento to satisfy your chocolate itch for Chocolate Cake Day, don’t look much further than Ettore’s.
