16. Suarez Bakery — Charlotte, NC

Charlotte residents are people who love their sweets.

It’s the South, how can they not? Sweets are part of the everyday diet around these parts, so you know that there is a great bakery in every part of the growing Queen City of the South. One such bakery that has made its name within this sprawling city is Suarez Bakery, located on Charlotte’s booming southside.

Suarez Bakery is known as a “scratch bakery,” meaning that this place makes their cakes and baked goods exclusively from scratch. There is nothing never pre-made here, and that gives the cakes a freshness that many will drive upward from 20 miles to enjoy.

This bakery serves every baked sweet imaginable, from doughnuts that can easily rival Krispy Kream or Dunkin’, to pastries and cupcakes that will melt in your mouth, there are few bakeries in Charlotte that can rival with this institution.

King among their sweets, however, is their chocolate cakes, which you can either get in-store already made, or made custom. For the pickier chocolate cake eaters, we’d strongly recommend getting your cake made custom.

Another top seller here is the King Cake, which is sweet dough iced with vanilla glaze, and sprinkled with sanding sugar. The King Cake can also be filled, with cinnamon and brown sugar, or cream cheese. Regardless of which cake you get, you can’t go wrong with a great cake from Suarez Bakery.
