3. Island Time Diner — Marathon

Sitting beside and Office Depot, one can’t help but take a peek inside to see what this diner is all about.

The Island TIme Diner (5187 Overseas Hwy., 305-204-4825) is a small establishment that comes up big on taste. As soon as you step inside, you’ll be greeted with the heavenly smells of a diner that has been in beautiful Marathon for a while now.

It may not seem like it from appearance, but the Island Time Diner is known around these parts for making some delicious burgers. One burger that you should try is the Sweet Asian Burger, which is topped with the usual staples of lettuce and tomatoes but adds some island flavor with grilled pineapples and teriyaki sauce for a flavor bomb that no chain restaurant can touch.

Ask some folks, and they’ll tell you that the burgers at Island Time Diner are some of the best in the Florida Keys, and when you sink your teeth into one of their burger creations, it’s hard to dispute that fact.

Our last stop on the best burger restaurants tour before we hit Key West, takes us to Big Pine Key, to another restaurant that has “rooster’ within its name.
