Ommegang’s Game of Thrones For the Throne beer: Review and where to find it
By Sandy C.
A new Game of Thrones beer from Ommegang and HBO, For the Throne, is here to help you get through the final season of the hit HBO drama.
It’s time to drink up and know things, Game of Thrones fans! Ommegang has released a new beer: Game of Thrones For the Throne, and all we have to say is — cheers!
This isn’t the first time Ommegang has joined forces with HBO to create a special Game of Thrones-themed beverage. In fact, they’ve been teaming up since spring 2013. However, it’s safe to say this year is like no other. If you have long been collecting the beautifully designed GoT beer bottles from Ommegang, you don’t want to miss out having this latest one on your collection. It is, after all, the final season of the beloved, hit HBO drama, Game of Thrones.
HBO was kind enough to send me a bottle and I’m in love with the design. It’s very sleek, dark, and has the throne proudly printed in gold and black tones. The name: For the Throne is in white underneath. It’s a gorgeous piece of decor for any fan of the show, after drinking it up, of course.

Are you preparing for the return of the show? Who isn’t? Most of us are still in denial the series is almost over. Thanks to Brewery Ommegang and HBO Licensing & Retail, For the Throne beer is here to help you get through the final episodes.
This latest beer begins launching nationwide in early April, so it’s here just before Game of Thrones returns Sunday, April 14.
"From the press release: “Winter is here, the wall has fallen, and the final battle for Westeros is underway. With this offering, we have bent the traditional boundaries of beer-making, co-fermenting traditional ingredients with juices normally destined for fine wines, going to great lengths to create a truly unique, special beer,” says Brewery Ommegang president Doug Campbell.“This style of beer, often called a ‘oenobeer,’ is a rapidly expanding area of study for us. For The Throne is our first of co-fermentation beer of 2019, and the only one we’ve launched under the Game of Thrones banner.”"
The details: 9.5% ABV strong golden ale co-fermented with pinot grigio and viognier grape juices and then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast. And as the release states, “an ale fit for royalty.”

From the first sip, you know this is a very strong brew. This isn’t to say the flavor is overpowered by the buzz, just remember to take your time with it as the events going on in Game of Thrones may make you want to drink it all up. Best of all, there’s no uncomfortable after taste. Though this may not be for the average beer drinker, it is for those familiar with the taste.
"Complex and compelling, yet delicate and refined, For the Throne is our tribute to the final occupant of the Iron Throne. This strong golden ale is co-fermented with Pinot Grigio and Viognier grape juices, then bottle conditioned with Champagne yeast."
When and where can you get a bottle for yourself?
