Butter Chicken

India have been on the road to success from before the tournament even began. They showed their mettle from the opening match, resoundingly beating South Africa, Australia, and Pakistan. They had an unexpected wobble in the middle against Afghanistan, but having come through that match, they have continued to do well. Had it not been for England, India would have likely coasted through the round-robin matches unbeaten. But despite the one blip in their scorecard, India are well-poised to reach the finals, if not lift the trophy entirely.

To celebrate the number two team in the world, one can turn to no other dish but the global favourite—butter chicken. This is a dish that is not only beloved in its country of origin, but in many countries around the world. In Indian restaurants in a number of Western countries, butter chicken is the most ordered dish. And it isn’t surprising why—it’s not as spicy as other Indian dishes, while still being delightfully flavourful. A treat you can’t deny your party guests.

Pavlova

We could call New Zealand underdogs in the 2019 Cricket World Cup, but only because they’re almost always the underdogs. They started off the tournament in excellent style, winning three games on the trot, before a no-result against India, and then two more victories.

Their campaign inexplicably fell away against Pakistan, Australia, and England, but they still managed to make it to the semi-finals on the basis of their excellent run-rate. This team has put in some stunning performances, and though they may not be favourites in the semis, the other teams shouldn’t take New Zealand lightly.

In celebration of New Zealand reaching the semis, what better dish could one serve at a cricket party other than the beloved Pavlova? The meringue, whipped cream, and kiwi dessert has been a mainstay down under for years, and though the popularity of Pavlova has died down in other countries, it continues to be a favourite in New Zealand. An absolute must-have at your party.
