50,000 apples were snatched from an orchard

Someone in Indiana decided that it was a great idea to steal over 50,000 apples from an orchard. The one question on our minds is how did he do it?

As a fan of apples, I think that they are the true nectar of the Gods. As strong as my love for this fruit is, I don’t think that I would get to the level this person in Indiana reached.

According to Food & Wine, someone broke into the Williams Orchard and stole about 50,000 apples from the farm, worth approximately $27,000. Think about that for a second — who in the world would break into an orchard and risk stealing over $27,000 worth of apples?

What would anyone do with that many freaking apples? (How many pies and tarts are they trying to bake?!)

The owner of the orchard, Jon Drummond, told WSBT 22 that when he arrived, he saw entire blocks of trees picked clean of its fruit. “We just couldn’t even fathom it,” Drummond said, and honestly, when I first read the story, I couldn’t believe my eyes either.

Again, what would somebody want with over 50,000 apples? Does someone have a huge family and are planning on making a ton of pies and desserts with them? Do they plan on going inside the underground apple market and selling them to roadside vendors? (Is there even an underground apple market to sell the fruit on?)

Another question I have — why hasn’t anyone caught this person yet? It would have been odd for anyone carrying 50,000 apples away from an orchard and without anybody noticing it. Even if the person or people responsible used a large truck, which is the only way I see anyone hauling off this huge apple load, how does no one see this happen?

Let’s hope whoever did the crime will be caught, and the apples will be returned or at the very least paid for.
