Thirsty Thursday: An ode to the legendary Baja Blast

The Mountain Dew Baja Blast recently celebrated its 15th birthday, and we found it fitting to dedicate a Thirsty Thursday to this legendary soft drink.

A few days ago, a certain, special soft drink celebrated a historic milestone. The Mountain Dew Baja Blast turned 15 years young.

It’s kind of hard to fathom that the Baja Blast is that old. I remember when the soft drink first debuted at Taco Bell, back in the days when I still had a fondness for running to the border for some cheap tacos.

I remember going up to the soft drink dispenser and looking at this weird, new soda that they just put on the roster. Back in the early 2000s, we didn’t have the “Freestyle” soda machines that will allow you to mix any flavor your little heart desires. The soda mixing took a little more leg work.

But this soda, the Mountain Dew Baja Blast, was so foreign that my taste buds instantly took over my arm, and moved my soda cup underneath the Baja Blast selection. Then, I pressed the cup up against the dispenser, and the sheer tropical flavor of the Baja Blast flowed like a river of tropical blue gold.

I put my lid on the cup, inserted the straw, and proceeded to sip this unnatural, but intriguing drink. One sip, oh that one mighty sip, changed my thinking of the fast food soda forever, and ever since, I’ve been a diehard Baja Blast fan.

I’m pretty sure that others won’t have the same memory as me when it comes to the Baja Blast, but you can’t deny that it’s been the best soda around for the past decade or so. No other soda, not Wild Cherry Pepsi, not even Mountain Dew Code Red, can match the legendary taste satisfaction of the Baja Blast.
