The newest Reese’s holiday shape might dethrone the mighty Egg
By Meg Dowell
Eggs have always reigned supreme in the war of the Reese’s Holiday Shapes. The newest Christmas shape may dethrone them.
It’s nearly impossible to argue with Reese’s lovers on the subject of holiday shapes. The general consensus: Trees barely look like Trees, and the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is trash. Hearts? Eh. Eggs? Pretty much the only shape that should exist, chocolate covered hands down.
Why are Eggs the monarch of all Reese’s holiday shapes? Unlike Trees (get out), the peanut butter to chocolate ratio is perfect, even better than regular, tiresome Cups. You get a bite of peanut butter and chocolate all the way through. It’s perfect.
Until now, it hasn’t seemed possible that any future Reese’s shape could rival the untouchable Egg. Enter Reese’s Holiday Lights.

Holiday Lights aim to accomplish the exact same thing as Eggs. Their shape allows for the ideal distribution of peanut butter inside, which means you’re going to get something very similar to an Egg — near perfect peanut butter to chocolate ratio in every single bite.
Will this truly compare to the Eggs we know and love? That’s really going to depend on consumer and Reese’s lover perception. For all we know, Holiday Lights could turn out to be even better than Eggs and we’ll just have to accept it as fact. Or this could be a Reese’s Tree situation all over again, at which point we should just stop trusting that Christmas shapes are even worth trying.
Reese’s Holiday Lights are available now everywhere you usually get your candy fix. Right now, they claim to only be available for a limited time. But watch out: If they sell well this season, they just might return to compete for their crown again next Christmas.
Which Reese’s holiday shape do you like best? Are you going to give Holiday Lights a try, or stick with Eggs for life?
