White Castle cake on a stick is my life now
By Bonnie
White Castle continues its ploy for world domination with frozen desserts on a stick. I tried one, now there’s trouble.
Just look at it. Doesn’t it look delicious? Fun? Cute? Well, this little gooey delight from White Castle is exactly all of those things. My one warning: don’t try them. If you decide to go against this sage advice, you’re going to need to take some precautions.
If you eat one of these little treasures, you are going to want another one (and another). And then, well, all of them. With four in a box, you could be in real trouble (like I am). Not only will it cost you all your paychecks from now on, but you can’t live on these things alone.

They’re meant to be a treat, OK? If you think that you can replace your much-needed vitamins with these little delights, you’re going to be so sorry.
But hey, the holidays are about here, maybe this is a good time to join the gym. It’s not like White Castle is the only one vying for total control of our holiday treat decisions, right?
But seriously, folks, this thing was so good, I didn’t have any idea what was coming for me. I tried out the “Gooey Butter Cake” one and I am so glad I did.
I’ve never been huge on chocolate so the brownie is all yours. But for sure, I’ll be doing the “Fudge Dipped Cheesecake” next. I can handle a little chocolate, don’t you worry. There’s also a strawberry version of that, so I have a lot to think about this week.
Speaking of little, this brings me to another major point. In keeping with White Castle tradition, these things are nothing short of amazingly tiny. Check it out next to the unnecessary fork.
This is one of the dangers of the treats – you are going to want more than one. Unfortunately, that is not the idea and like I said… gym membership.
In addition, I hate to speak ill of the little critters, but when I unwrapped the thing, I was like, “where is it?” And also, it was a little bit um, distorted. Clearly, it had been frozen in an assembly process, leading to some pushing on the edges and such.
That’s OK, I was not about to be discouraged by a few little bends and a squishy edge. Like, I’m no stranger to frozen bakery items. In fact, it’s my preference. That’s why these things screamed my name from the shelf at the store.
And you should know that I did try one frozen and one thawed (then two more thawed). I’m not going to buy the thing and just sit around for hours while it gets ready for me to inhale it, you know? But I wanted to check out both methods, because flavor changes with cold.
My decision is, thaw it. According to White Castle, they’re ready to go frozen, right out of the box, and it only takes a few minutes at room temp to change that if you want. They also give you several options. You can check out their grocery section and also see where to find them near you, right on their site.
I would give it longer if you’re trying to have some soft and gooey experience. Dense and firm are words that stick with me about this experience. Like I said, I went with the Butter Cake one, but I don’t know if that will be the cases with the other flavors. I imagine the brownie would be similar. Stay tuned!
But once you do dig in, be ready. Yes, you can eat it right this second and it is lovely, still. But after it sits in the fridge for a bit and the firmness lets its grip go, the gooey gets more serious. No, it’s not going to melt or drip. It reminds me more of a firm eclair when it comes to the goo.
Also, you don’t need a fork because, stick. I tried both ways. The stick worked out just fine because it stays pretty firm and dense after it’s thawed. But the little buttery crumbles fall off pretty easily so beware. I guess a good solution is to stuff the whole thing in your mouth. I mean, it’s just an idea, but whatever.
But if you’re totally unlike me and you have even an ounce of self-control of any kind when it comes to gooey, chewy, buttery, crunchy flavor bombs, you should dig in right away. It may be a good idea to get a friend on board and just plan in the beginning to share.
If you have someone by your side, they will probably fight you for the remaining pieces, and the chances are high that you will not eat the entire box. You could also consider hiding them from yourself, but that did not work for me. Good luck.
