Starbucks has a grand plan to become the most eco-friendly coffee chain in just 10 years. Can it actually be done?

Starbucks has long had grand ambitions to dominate the coffee business, but now, they have outlined a plan that goes far beyond their “coffee world takeover” plot.

According to Delish, the coffeehouse chain has formally announced that, in addition to being the place to grab a cup of Joe, Starbucks wants to be the most eco-friendly chain on the planet. By 2030.

That’s really ambitious, and it begs the question as to whether or not this chain will be able to pull off what is promising to be a tall order. Alas, the coffee chain plans a general outline of how they will achieve their eco-friendly status in just 10 years. The three bullet points are:

  • A 50 percent reduction in carbon emissions from the company’s stores.
  • 50 percent of their water will come from “direct operations and coffee production,” and will be conserved or replenish into water basins.
  • Another 50 percent reduction in waste sent to landfills from its stores.

To its credit, Starbucks isn’t waiting until the last minute to get these ideas off the ground and into reality. In 2021, Starbucks will turn the big 50, and between now and that golden anniversary, the chain will look to tet out these strategies to get a handle on how to achieve their goals.

You have to give Starbucks a ton of credit here. The chain has been at the forefront of progressive and environmental issues ever since its birth, and their goal to be more eco-friendly only adds another feather into their street cred.

However, it is a bit too ambitious to aim for 2030, given their massive store count. That’s not saying it can’t be done, as Starbucks has ling conquered the impossible. We just caution the chain to go at this at a steady pace, that’s all.

Now you can all go back to enjoying your coffee.
