No one looks at the Sour Patch Kids cereal and thinks it’s going to be good. But first impressions aren’t everything. This cereal is better than you think.

I already know what you’re thinking. How? How can Sour Patch Kids cereal be anything but awful? I thought the exact same thing when I found it at a local grocery store. But as a huge fan of the sour gummy candy, I figured I’d give it a try. The verdict was a surprise, it’s actually really tasty!

Before you all decide to stone me and bash my taste buds, let me tell you what the cereal is like. The cereal pieces are shaped like a mini-version of a normal Sour Patch Bid and come in the traditional colors of red, green, blue, and yellow.

They are not gummy at all. They’re crunchy like Froot Loops or Apple Jacks or the non-marshmallow parts of Lucky Charms.

But the taste is the most important thing, right? They taste almost exactly like Froot Loops but with a hint of sour when it first hits your tongue. Don’t be too freaked out by that, though. It goes away almost instantly and is sweet and fruity afterward.

If it didn’t have that initial sour punch, I would think I was eating some sugary,  fruit-flavored cereal.

You may want to eat them rather quickly if you’re serving them with milk. While the taste isn’t bad, mushy Sour Patch Kids cereal is not that appealing. You may also want to be cautious if you’re using a non-dairy option. Almond or rice milk might be a weird combination with a sweet and sour cereal. I tried the cereal both dry and with regular milk, so I can’t say if it’s different with a non-dairy alternative.

Where can you buy this delightfully unique cereal? It’s available at quite a few stores. I was able to find it in the suburbs of Michigan, so it’s not too hard to get a hold of. Post, the manufacturer of the cereal, has a store tracker so you can find the closest place near you.
