Cotton candy cakes are one of the newest creations to come out recently. But would anyone choose cotton candy over a delicious cake covered in frosting?

Cake is the greatest dessert known to humankind. It would be the greatest food ever, but potatoes exist so it must be bumped down to a strong runner-up. Cake is sweet, moist (if it’s made right), and the delivery system for frosting. What’s not to like? Well, apparently some people think otherwise because cotton candy cakes now exist. I have one question: why??

Who thinks cotton candy tastes better than cake and decided to make decorative blocks of cotton candy?? On behalf of all cakes and cake lovers, I’m offended. Sure, it looks cool and I’m sure it’s incredibly complicated to put together, but it’s not cake! It’s not the carb-y, sugar-y, frosting vehicle that we all love. Who in their right mind would want a slice of cotton candy over a delicious slice of cake?

Apparently, quite a few people do because Sweet Fluffe Cotton Candy Creations is in business and making cotton candy cakes for all types of occasions whether it be a birthday or Mother’s day.

And you aren’t limited when it comes to flavors either as they can make it taste like banana, birthday cake, bubble gum, cherry, grape, green apple, lemon, lime, orange, pink vanilla, raspberry, strawberry, or watermelon. Not gonna lie…I kind of want to check out the lemon, green apple, and watermelon flavors.

It also looks extremely cool and while sugar work can be difficult, I imagine when making a rainbow cotton candy cake like the one below, it’s a whole lot easier to create than the cake version. According to Delish, the creator Sherri Kelly uses plastic cake molds to ensure the “cakes” hold their shape.

But despite how beautiful they look and all the flavors they come in, cotton candy cake can never hold a candle to the deliciousness it’s trying to imitate. It may have the same amount of sugar, but it can never mimic the creaminess and the perfection of a good cake with just the right frosting. If I had to pick one, I’d stick with cake.
