What is up with this mini waffle and pancake cereal craze?

If you’ve been on TikTok, Instagram, or any other social media, chances are you’ve seen one these videos where someone makes miniature waffles, pancakes, or cookies and then pours syrup or milk over them and calls it cereal.
I have a couple questions. The first is: why is this a thing? Are people that bored that they need to make their own weird cereal? My second question is: people making the cookie cereal…do y’all not know about Cookie Crisp? You can save so much time!

This fad started off with mini pancakes cereal which, as far as I can tell, is just mini pancakes with syrup and butter in a bowl. Do we need a refresher on the definition of cereal?
According to Google, it’s a breakfast food made from roasted grain, typically eaten with milk.” So, technically, this isn’t a cereal, but it’s definitely a fun way to make breakfast and a way to tell your friends you ate 50 pancakes at once.
The pancake trend turned into waffles. You make mini waffle bites using a waffle maker, fill each little square with icing (ok, I can get behind that), and then put it all in a bowl and cover it in syrup. Once again…if there is no milk, is it really cereal?
The craze then went to cookies. The person in the Tik Tok video uses Toll House pre-made cookie dough, makes it into small cookie balls, bakes them, and then puts them in a bowl and pours milk over them.

That’s a lot of trouble to go through when Cookie Crisp exists! Sure, the cookies aren’t fresh like if you get them right from the oven, but if you’re not great in the kitchen, or just don’t want to go through all the steps to have cookies for breakfast, go to the store and grab a box!
