TikTok users show everyone how to cut a cake into perfect slices

Whether you’re enjoying a cake for your birthday or just because it is delicious, cutting it into slices is one of the hardest parts (besides making it, of course). Getting a perfect clean slice is easier said than done, especially when you’re cutting the first slice. The first slice is usually slightly eschew, but when you’re eating cake, as long as it tastes good, it doesn’t really matter, right? But if you’re looking for the perfect, Instagram-worthy slice, put down the knife and pick up some dental floss.

Yes, you read that right! According to TikTok users inmyseams and aquickspoonful, dental floss makes cutting a cake simple and easy. So, how does it work?

What you will want to do is take a long piece of dental floss and slowly pull it through the cake. It slices it really cleanly.

Just keep pushing the dental floss through the cake until you have the amount of slices you need. You may want to clean off the floss after each cut for really clean slices, but other than that, it’s super easy.

You can also place the cake on top of the floss and then criss-cross the floss across the top of the cake and pull. It will slice through it like a hot knife through butter.

You aren’t limited to just dental floss, though. If you have fishing line, a clean wire, or a thin piece of string, those will work too.

There are also gadgets and special knives that will do this, but this costs way less since you probably have floss or string in your house already.

And this works no matter if the cake is square, round, or a rectangle. As long as you have a long enough piece of floss or wire, you can cut any size cake without any issues.

You could probably cut a wedding cake this way too, but it might be weird to bring out the floss and give it to the caterer preparing the food.

If you’ve been baking for awhile, you probably know this trick or have seen similar ideas before. It’s not the newest thing out there, but now that it’s on TikTok more people get to see it and try it out.

No more cutting cakes with messy knives that ruin the frosting after the second cut (and sometimes after the first). Get out your dental floss and cut as many slices as you like (I’ll take two pieces, please).
