Some food businesses have been unfortunately hit hard since the pandemic hit

As we all know, the state of the world at the moment is pretty darn crazy. In March of this year is when the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and since then, a lot of people, businesses (food businesses included), and a bunch of other things have unfortunately suffered in a variety of ways.

Whether businesses have gone bankrupt, lost business, or experienced some sort of food shortage, it’s pretty safe to say that food businesses have been hit pretty hard, especially those who relied on dine-in customers and those that can’t exactly survive on phone ahead orders.

During this pandemic, let’s see how we can help some local food businesses.

First of all, let’s discuss some ways in which we can help some of our local food businesses first, since those are more along the lines of small businesses that need the most help at the moment.

Buy a gift card for future usage.

When all of this first started, my Dad and I went to go pick up some dinner for the family from this local cafè about fifteen minutes from my house called Something’s Brewing. Of course, we bought dinner and some dessert muffins, but something that I never even thought of to do, was to buy a gift card for future use there.

This is the most perfect way to basically guarantee that you’ll be giving them some business in the near future. Have a fave local cafè or restaurant in general? Buy a gift card for later!

Now, let’s take a look at some food businesses that the pandemic has hit the hardest.

First of all, let’s look at every child’s one of many favorite places to go to eat and play: Chuck E. Cheese’s (CEC Entertainment). To me, this one came somewhere in between being predictable and being a surprise.

On one end, everyone knows and loves Chuck E. Cheese and continued business would’ve been expected; however, given the strict social distancing guidelines, gaming and eating and performances don’t really coincide with that. In fact, Chuck E. Cheese has since lost over $1 billion in liabilities since December of 2019 to be precise.

Another business, according to the USA Today that has since filed for bankruptcy, has been Garden Fresh Restaurants. Since May of 2020, all of the Garden Fresh Restaurants have filed for bankruptcy and had roughly somewhere in between $50 – $100 million in liabilities looming over them.

Given that they’re a buffet-based restaurant/food company, closures and money loss was sadly to be expected during these unprecedented times.

If you’re looking for more ways to support small food businesses nearest to your hometown and location, contact some of your favorite local restaurants and ask how you can help. No donation, no gift card, and no good vibes are too small. We all matter!
