McDonald’s new spicy nuggets create a great debate
This is the one to define 2020 by. The debate they’ll be talking about for years to come. No argument of the year could possibly compare! The one thing that could divide Americans! The country will be shaken to its core with… The Great Spicy Nuggets War of 2020!
Delish has the pun-laden scoop as Wendy’s takes aim at McDonald’s over the announcement of their new spicy chicken McNuggets. Wendy’s snarky Twitter feed gave the fast food juggernaut a verbal McSpanking, and they’re tossing Burger King into the fryer along with them.
Spicy nuggets everywhere, but are they really worth it?
Has Wendy’s really earned their right to trash-talk a product that hasn’t even been released yet? Are their spicy nuggets really so much better? Frankly, nobody knows. What we do know (or at least what I can claim) is that as of yet, no spicy nugget can truly compare to the original.
Burger King’s spicy nuggets are always drier than their more plain, perfectly tasty counterpart. Wendy’s spicy nuggets are better than Burger King’s, and while they’re certainly spicier, they aren’t as flavorful as their original brand. They’re also the most expensive option. Can we expect the same failings from the McDonald’s spicy nuggs?
Everyone’s shaking up their menus these days. There is a constant one-upmanship with fast food chains and their chicken. Remember when the McNugget changed to all white-meat? Or how many times has Burger King changed its nugget recipe (and shape and size and name)?
The only point of the spicy Nugget from McDonald’s is to compete with Wendy’s and Burger King. A ploy to pull in the curious. And it will work because I’m curious and will definitely try them out. I’m of the opinion that McDonald’s has the best nuggets of any major fast food chain. I doubt if they could top the original, but look forward to what they have to offer. Mcdonalds’ Sweet ‘N Sour Sauce is the clincher, ranking far above any other, and is unique from any like sauce I’ve personally enjoyed.
There is potentially more to the history of the McNugget and its sugary dipping counterpart. For that I recommend seeking out the documentary The Search for General Tso. A section of the film covers the possible birth of the McNugget that will both make you crave them and sour your opinion of this Chinese-American “inspired” treat. These Eats may even make you feel Guilty, and with that sentence, we’ve surpassed the Delish article in punnery.
Another thing the documentary will reveal is that the war of the nuggets is nothing new. It’s a battle rife with foul play, smear campaigns, “new and improved” weaponry, and most importantly of all, full bellies left wanting more.
