General Mills bringing toys back to our cereal

Remember when there used to be toys in every cereal box, including General Mills? You either knew what you were getting from the outside of the box or there were a variety of toys and you didn’t know which one you were getting until you ripped open the box, tossed the cereal aside, and grabbed it out. I remember getting a spoon that changed color once you put it in milk.

But while toys have not been in cereal boxes as often these days, General Mills is bringing them back in a big way! They’re now putting a toy in Lucky Charms, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, Cookie Crisp, Trix, Honey Nut Cheerios, and Cocoa Puffs (and they are calling them the cereal squad!!!). I am so excited for this! I already plan on getting the Cinnamon Toast Crunch toy.

What do these toys look like, though? Back in the day, they usually had to do with whatever big kid’s movie was coming out, but this time, they have to do with the cereal itself.

In the Lucky Charms box, you get a small version of Lucky the Leprechaun, in Cinnamon Toast Crunch, you get a little toast guy, and in your Honey Nut Cheerios, you get Buzz the Bee.

General Mills offering toys in Trix, Lucky Charms, Cocoa Crisp and more.

Trix comes with the Trix rabbit, Cookie Crisp includes Chip the Wolf, and your Cocoa Puffs will have a small Sonny the Cuckoo Bird toy inside.

But if you want one (or if you want to collect them all), you’ll need to be quick. This is a limited time offer and will be available while supplies last. Now we don’t have to go into our memory banks to try and remember the old days when every cereal box except Special K had a toy in it. We can all go to our local supermarket and bask in the nostalgia of these new toys.

Editor’s Note: After our author snagged a box of the specially marked Cinnamon Toast Crunch, she discovered the Trix rabbit hanging out in the box. This means it may take more work than just snagging your favorite cereal if you want to get the mascot you love. (Time to stock up on cereal everyone.)
