TikTok is getting in on the viral mini food trend

TikTok is at it again with another food trend and this time it’s everything mini! Now you can scroll through the app and watch tons of videos of people making their favorite recipes but in miniature.

According to Delish, it seems to have started with creator foodcreator6. They only have four videos on their channel but already have over 50K followers.

The recipes on the channel range from mini beef wellington, which is hard to make in a normal size on a good day, to braised pork to steak cooked in a cast iron pan. They even make pork buns! But it’s not just the food that is mini, it’s the ingredients, the packages they come in, and the utensils and pans they’re cooked in. If you don’t find the mini wok to be the cutest thing in the world, I don’t know what to tell you.

This isn’t exactly a new trend, though. There are a bunch of YouTube channels where you can see people making miniature meals. It’s just making the rounds on TikTok now and thank goodness.

TikTok mini food trend started in Japan.

There is something infinitely calming about watching someone make tiny food in a tiny kitchen. It’s like doll food, but better because it’s real and you can actually eat it!

According to Mashable, this miniature trend originally comes from Japan where they have been growing miniature bonsai trees for over 1200 years. They also state that “anthropologists suggest this fascination stems from the beloved concept kawaii, or ‘cuteness.'”

It’s also interesting (at least to me) that people are drawn to making miniature dishes that are complicated to make even when they’re regular size. Pork buns and beef wellington aren’t recipes for the beginner cook. They’re difficult for even the seasoned chef sometimes. It’s intriguing that those are the recipes people seemed to be drawn to the most.

I also want to know where they get such small utensils! The little bowls foodcreator6 uses look smaller than little ramakins. And don’t get me started on the mini knives and spoons. The miniature rolling pin in the pork bun video…it’s cuteness knows no bounds!

The miniature food processor is also a thing of genius and I think part of the love for these kinds of videos is also the ingenuity the people have who make them. They find or make all these different utensils and pots and pans just so they can make a little clip for everyone to enjoy. It doesn’t get purer than that.
