Burger King is testing a brand new crispy chicken sandwich with different varieties
Chicken sandwiches are still all the rage in the fast-food restaurant market. It’s become a competitive point for places such as Chick-fil-A, Popeye’s, and KFC, and the biggest benefactors are chicken sandwich lovers looking for variety and deals. What’s Burger King have coming our way?
According to Chewboom, Burger King may be throwing their hat in the ring with an all-new Hand-Breaded Crispy Chicken Sandwich. They are showing the company continues to want to be known as more than just the home of the Whopper.
We all know Burger King already does chicken sandwich and they became famous for the oblong chicken sandwich they debuted years ago, could become a game-changer in the chicken sandwich wars. The new sandwiches seem to be in the test market phase and they were spotted by YouTube reviewer Rodrick Eats. He was able to get the sandwich in his local BK in Phoenix, Arizona.
On the menu, there were three varieties:
- Hand-Breaded Original Crispy Chicken Sandwich: This sandwich version has just pickles and sauce.
- Hand-Breaded Lettuce & Tomato Crispy Chicken Sandwich: This sandwich version includes tomatoes, shredded lettuce, and sauce.
- Hand-Breaded Cheddar Bacon Crispy Chicken Sandwich: This version includes bacon and melted cheddar, and sauce.
The Hand-Breaded Original Crispy Chicken Sandwich is more reminiscent of what you see at Popeye’s and Chick-fil-A including having pickles on the sandwich.
It is a thicker chicken breast piece than anything we’ve seen from Burger King before. The company is advertising the chicken being hand-battered and breaded in location so it leads you to believe it will be a fresh chicken sandwich.
Burger King is using a new sauce instead of mayo for their chicken sandwich
Burger King is putting what they are calling Savory Sauce on the sandwich. The sauce helps keep the sandwich moist which is important since most YouTube reviews found mention the sandwich tasting a little bit dry. Possibly a sign that Burger King is not marinating their chicken.
The new Hand-Breaded Crispy Chicken Sandwiches seem to still be in a testing phase and not available everywhere. Pricing may vary in different markets but the sandwiches look to begin at $3.89 for the Original (or $.10 cheaper than Popeye’s) and go all the way up to $5.49 for the Cheddar Bacon.
Hopefully, the testing goes well and we will see the nationwide launch shortly. It is great to see yet another good crispy sandwich option out there to rival the main competitors. Burger King can only hope they can get their viral moment as well.
