Yelp is having none of it when it comes to racist accusation and will beginning flagging restaurants for it
In a recent blog post from Yelp, the website announced that it’s upset by the recent spike in racism accusations. In response, they will be taking these reports extremely seriously.
Delish shared the news earlier this week, Yelp will begin flagging businesses that are accused of “racially charged behavior” on their app and website pages.
There are already several restaurants with alerts while Yelp investigates the situation. Yelp makes it clear in their post that they “value diversity, inclusion, and belonging, both internally and on our platform.” Basically, they’re not cool with supporting any businesses that display racism, and we have to applaud them for it.
More sites should follow Yelp’s example
I believe this is a great step that should be followed by other similar sites to Yelp, as it can really help shape up the industry.

We have all seen or have heard of racism at a fast food joint or restaurant. It happens one too many times. Things need to change and Yelp is taking the right step towards that.
Not just any review will count, though. Yelp wants to be sure they maintain credibility and the integrity of their site. An alert that reads “Business Accused of Racist Behavior” will appear on the fast food location or restaurant and offer a link to a credible news source to further explain the situation.

Yelp continues to encourage everyone to share their experience, good or bad, on their app to help others. Let’s support businesses that are doing things right, particularly small businesses.
