Burger King Japan is advertising the arrival of the Fake Burger later this month, but no one knows exactly what it is.

Burger King has never been one to shy away from rocking the boat and trying something new, especially when it comes to restaurants outside the United States. For some reason, people in other parts of the world are more willing to try new things other than the traditional Whopper with Cheese.

Take Burger King Japan. For the last few weeks, they have been promoting something they are calling the Fake Burger. It has been all over social media and the image, which is of a burger with the center pixilated so you can’t see it. The promotion seems to be working because people are talking about the Fake Burger. A lot.

So what is the Burger King Fake Burger anyway?

In the States, when you hear the words “fake burger” immediately images of a vegan or vegetarian burger come to mind. And while that is usually pretty accurate, it looks like that might not be the case here.

According to Mashed, the best guess is that the Fake Burger is actually a new kind of egg sandwich of some kind. The Japanese are crazy for eggs and it would make a lot of sense for Burger King to try and enter that market. It could be an egg sandwich with burger-style toppings or it could be a new kind of Whopper with a fried egg on top.

So will the Fake Burger make its way to the United States down the road? It’s tough to say. There are a lot of versions of popular fast food items that never make it here. They are either considered too out there for American tastes or the logistics of making them here just doesn’t work. But you can be sure if it’s a big hit in Japan, we’ll see some version of it at some point.
