Looking for a new dining experience in Maryland? Bushel and a Peck in Clarksville, MD should be at the top of your list!

Just a few shorts weeks ago in October, Maryland’s newest dining destination Bushel and a Peck opened its doors in Clarksville, Howard County. Celebrating the rich history of the Chesapeake Bay, owner Rob Wecker and Chef Joe Krywucki bring together over 40 years of combined experience and knowledge to their new restaurant.

And if you’re curious, the name refers to a unit of measurement for both seafood and produce!

A love for the Chesapeake Bay, right here in Howard County thanks to Bushel and a Peck!

The restaurant is, in short, beautiful. Supple and rich woods embrace you throughout the restaurant. Private rooms with ample space for you and a future party are dotted throughout. Artwork celebrating the Chesapeake Bay are showcased lovingly throughout as well. To say this restaurant is a love letter to old school Baltimore would be an understatement. Bushel and a Peck feels like home.

But what about the food and drink? Just like the restaurant, the food, and drinks I sampled were exceptional, with the staff going above and beyond to make sure my visit was comfortable and enjoyable.

First up on my docket was the Campfire Old Fashioned. This take on a classic combined Chicory Infused Bourbon, Maple, Angostura Bitters, and Butter Essence into an extraordinary smokey drink, with just enough hints of maple to give it a sweet kick. The Campfire Old Fashioned should become your go-to winter drink. Hop on Pop followed — a beautiful lavender drink that brought in Hopped Gin, Raspberry Reduction, Fresh Lemon, Quillaja Bark, and Poppy Seeds on top. I could personally drink several of these in a row.

The food is equally impressive. Since Bushel and a Peck celebrates all things Chesapeake Bay it only made sense to order a fresh plate of oysters. These delectable (and local!) oysters were not too sweet and not too salty. The accompanying Cocktail Sauce and Chili & Lime Mignonette complimented the oysters well.

Bushel and a Peck also specializes in Eastern European fare, which should not be passed up! The Duck Confit & Chapel Creamery Cheddar Pierogies make for a great starter dish — the duck is melt in your mouth tender, while the cheddar pierogies ads a beautiful sharp taste. The Stuffed Cabbage with Mary’s Land Farm Grass-Fed Beef is fresh, filling, and the perfect dish for a cold and rainy day. Consider finishing your meal with their Lithuanian Apple Cake. This warm apple cake is complete with a scoop of vanilla ice cream, topped off with a baked apple slice. This is the perfect fall dessert!
