McDonald’s will fire its own shot in the chicken sandwich wars and we can’t wait
The war for the greatest and most popular chicken sandwich continues to heat up with seemingly every restaurant and fast food establishment throwing some sort of entry into the ring, including McDonald’s.
As reported by Chewboom, McDonald’s is set to add another sandwich into the fight with its very own new fried chicken sandwich. As we have said before, the winner in this fight is the chicken sandwich lovers more than any supplier.
McDonald’s has had a very busy second half to 2020 with announcements ranging from partnerships with Travis Scott and J Balvin, to the return of the McRib, limited time spicy McNuggets, and an all-new plant-based burger. All of this has led to an increase in business and quarterly results that beat projections.
With the upcoming new Chicken Sandwich, McDonald’s is viewing this launch as an expansion for its “chicken portfolio.” McDonald’s had tested a Crispy Chicken Sandwich earlier this year at locations in both Knoxville, Tennessee, and Houston, Texas. Apparently, the test runs went well because now McDonald’s now has a plan for a nationwide release.
McDonald’s is looking to beat the other chicken sandwiches by keeping it simple
McDonald’s new Crispy Chicken Sandwich will be more of a simplistic sandwich similar to what we have seen from other offerings from competitors. It is being described as “a simple build relevant for our U.S. customer base – with chicken, a potato roll, crinkle-cut pickles, and butter.”
Personally, it sounds extremely good as the potato roll combined with butter should make for a very moist and savory sandwich, and of course, any crispy chicken sandwich needs to be topped with pickles. I am hoping McDonald’s plans on putting care and attention into the pickles because it has the potential to make a break the sandwich. Here’s to also hoping for a marinated and then hand-breaded chicken fillet.
While an exact date has not yet been announced, McDonald’s did let it be known that the new Crispy Chicken Sandwich will be available in early 2021. This is just another reason to feel that 2020 cannot turn the page on the calendar to 2021 soon enough.
The sandwich is just a piece of the company’s focus to continue to leverage its chicken offerings since the category has more potential for growth than beef. Although we have not seen any evidence of a spicy version of the sandwich, we can only hope that any success will lead to at least a limited time Spicy Crispy Chicken Sandwich offer.
