Is there a second meat shortage we should soon be preparing for?

Unfortunately, the end of 2020 doesn’t necessarily guarantee that our pain and difficulties are over. We are close to waving bye to a difficult year, but this isn’t over yet! For starters, there seems to be a second meat shortage already on the way.

However, the reason for this second meat shortage may not be due to COVID-19. Well, at least not completely! According to Mashed, the holiday season is mostly to blame here.

Thanksgiving was a little different than others, sadly. Will Christmas be the same? It sure is looking like it! Family gatherings will be kept very small. And now, on top of this, we may be dealing with a second meat shortage.

Why is there a second meat shortage?

Due to fears of a new wave, many have been clearing store shelves, stocking up on everything from canned goods to toilet paper. That’s right, it’s happening again, and it’s truly unfortunate. There is no need to run to stores and buy everything in sight, especially when there are people and families who truly are in need of these items.

That said, meat is being purchased a lot, too. Fortunately, the source reports that suppliers and producers are already preparing for the high demand ahead. However, this doesn’t guarantee that a shortage of certain products, like meat, won’t happen.

Mashed shares that other products that may see a shortage in 2021, include: Beer, soda, canned soup (and other canned goods), and snack foods such as chips.

Excuse me? This list had me at chips! This is my favorite snack! From the list, I have already noticed a shortage of canned soup. There is not a lot of variety available. As for products that aren’t food, popular brands of paper towels and toilet paper are also tougher to find.

Remember, don’t panic and rush to stores! Buy only what is needed, it’s the only way we will all get through this together.
