Why do people think Domino’s is the best pizza chain?
By D. Goodman
According to a recent survey, 40% of people think Domino’s is the best pizza chain out there, to which we say “seriously?!”
As if we needed more proof that 2020 is a terrible chapter, comes the news that apparently people love Domino’s Pizza over all the rest of the big chains. This tells us that most people obviously have never had a real pizza.
Mashed decided to do an informal poll of which pizza chain people liked the best. They asked 42,000 people via YouTube (red flag number one) which pizza chain was their go-to place. The winner was Domino’s with 40%, followed by Pizza Hut, Papa John’s, and then Little Caesars in descending order.
Domino’s is the most popular pizza chain?
Have you ever had a Domino’s Pizza? If you’re lucky enough to be able to say no to that question, imagine a circle of cardboard covered with tomato juice with some mozzarella cheese thrown haphazardly all over it. It just isn’t good pizza and no amount of convincing will make me think otherwise.
But what really blew me away was the fact that Mom and Pop pizza joints got just 14% of the vote, 14%! If you love pizza you know that while Pizza Hut or Little Caesars might be okay in a pinch, Mom and Pops have the best pizza. It’s hot, fresh, and tastes way better than anything the chains can even come close to.
Obviously, the fine folks at Mashed don’t live near any decent pizza places because they actually think people wanting Domino’s over a Mom and Pop pizza is just fine. According to them:
"“Mom and Pops don’t deliver, and you don’t always feel like dining in, and, well, your mileage (and quality) may vary, since some Moms and Pops may be a trifle heavy on the grease while others skimp on sauce.”"
First off, I’ve never, and I mean never, seen a Mom and Pop pizza place that doesn’t offer delivery. It’s pretty much standard. Second, compare the sauce on a Domino’s pizza to any Mom and Pop. The big difference is that the Mom and Pop’s is actually real sauce, not watered down tomato soup.
And let’s be honest here. If you live in New York or Philadelphia or Chicago and someone sees you carrying a Domino’s box out to your trash, you could get your ass kicked. I kid you not. I’ve seen it happen.
If you want a pizza that has some flavor to it, I implore you to find a Mom and Pop pizza place near you and do a comparison. I guarantee that once you try a real pizza you will never think of Domino’s as “pizza” ever again.
