Travis Scott’s collaboration with McDonald’s put some extra value in his pocket
Unlike many of us, 2020 has been pretty good for Travis Scott and his bank account. As reported by The Takeout, Scott’s partnership with McDonald’s helped net the star rapper $20 million dollars. This means he can buy a whole lot more Quarter Pounders whenever he visits McDonald’s
In case you are unaware, Scott partnered with McDonald’s for a $6 meal featuring his favorite option whenever he eats at McDonald’s. The meal was so successful that it helped contribute to shortages at McDonald’s restaurants.
For Scott, it wasn’t the food that helped fill his pockets but it was the merchandise partnership he was able to also strike with the fast-food purveyor. According to Forbes, $15 million of his earnings came from the co-branded merchandise which featured items such as a McNugget body pillow and various co-branded shirts and shorts. All of the merchandise was sold through Scott’s Cactus Jack brand website.
The millions made by Travis Scott made for a special deal for him and McDonald’s
Scott helped McDonald’s become relevant to a younger customer base which was no small feat. This means we could be seeing his Quarter Pounder with cheese meal back again next year. Personally, I am not sure exactly what was so special about the meal other than the price. Like Travis Scott, I tend to dip my fries in McDonald’s BBQ sauce if I venture their way. I do think Scott might be missing the mark because dipping your fries and burger in McDonald’s Sweet and Sour sauce is definitely the way to go.
The deal with McDonald’s was mutually beneficial as McDonald’s saw a big increase in traffic due to Scott’s popularity. There was even a Scott surprise visit to a McDonald’s in Downey, California that resulted in fines for both Scott and McDonald’s because of the immense turnout.
All of this probably means McDonald’s will be happy to run the promotion back again in 2021 if Scott feels the same way. He definitely has 20 million reasons to do so.
