Which state do you live in? Do you agree with the best sandwich on this list?

Next up, let’s travel to Illinois and Indiana (one of these being my home-state)!

13. Illinois

Sandwich: Classic Italian Beef

Where to Enjoy: Portillo’s

Portillo’s’ official name is Portillo’s Hot Dogs, but let me tell ya, if you go to Portillo’s for the first time ever, don’t order a hot dog. Order their classic Italian beef sandwich. It’s the best beef around (come at me); it’s super flavorful, and can be served wet, dry, soaked, or however, you most prefer it. No matter how you like it, with sweet peppers, hot peppers, no peppers, with melted cheese on it, it’s delicious in whichever variety that you choose to sink your chompers into.

If you’re an Illinoisan like myself, and have Portillo’s around you, what’s your favorite way to eat beef from Portillo’s? Please be sure to debate with us all about it in the comment.

Have you tried this one yet? Your thoughts? Let’s hear it!

14. Indiana

Sandwich: Shapiro’s

Where to Enjoy: Reuben

Sure, as seen in California at Langer’s Deli, a reuben sandwich is nothing short of flavor. Shapiro’s deli out in Indiana is one of the best delis out there that has some of the best housemade rye bread in the country (according to its consumers and customers alike). Their peppered beef brisket is another crowd favorite from Shapiro’s; however, it’s true to show that the Reuben is the favorite above all else.

"Four generations of Shapiros have worked hard to make this place indispensable to a city that might have otherwise lost interest decades ago."
