Earlier this month, Krispy Kreme received backlash for offering a free donut to those who have been vaccinated. Now, the doughnut chain’s CEO is defending the promotion and we have to agree with him!

Foodies (and, well, just about everybody) learned about Krispy Kreme’s promotion earlier this month. Got the COVID-19 shot? Bring your vaccine card to your local Krispy Kreme for a delicious and free Original Glazed Doughnut, the chain’s most iconic doughnut aka donut.

What’s not to love about this promotion? It’s a free doughnut to start your day off with (or finish) and it shows how much Krispy Kreme supports the efforts to stop the spread. Not everyone saw things this way, though. That’s right, many were unbelievably upset.

Krispy Kreme defends its latest promotion

Many were bothered and took to Twitter about how this was a  “death wish” and how obesity is a prime risk category for coronavirus. According to Yahoo! Finance, Krispy Kreme CEO Mike Tattersfield stands by the promotion.

"Tattersfield said, “we’re a sweet treat company, [and] if folks don’t want to visit a donut shop, they don’t have to.”"

Well said, if you ask me! Now, I’m no expert, but I don’t know if one free doughnut will cause diabetes or even obesity. I also don’t believe stopping by for a FREE doughnut after you get the vaccine is a requirement or rule.

Simply put, if you have any concerns about your health, don’t get a doughnut! Of course, keep the same mindset on other things — stay away from absolutely all sugar, including sugary drinks such as frappuccinos, and avoid greasy foods like pizza and burgers while you’re at it.
