Over the last 18 seasons of Top Chef, we have met a number of brilliant chefs. And Richard Blais is one of them. But it seems that right now it is his hair that is the real star of the show.

On April 1, Top Chef Season 18 premiered with Richard Blais joining as a guest judge. We expect to see the celebrity chef and Top Chef alum throughout the season, especially considering the filming of these season took place during the heart of the Covid-19 pandemic, which meant strict protocol and quarantine bubbles.

And sure, we can talk about the new chefs who joined the ranks of the Top Chef elites, but why would we do that when we can instead focus on Blais’ hair. As Mashed reported, we are not alone in wanting to talk about “that look.”

Don’t get me wrong, I love Richard Blais. He is the kind of chef that you want to be friends with and is so much fun to watch when he shows up on cooking shows like Top Chef and Guy’s Grocery Games. And of course his hair has long been his signature – after all he is the guy who jokes that he achieves his typical look with the help of “equal parts duck fat & liquid nitrogen.”

Top Chef is back, but all we can talk about is Richard Blais’ hair

In the season premiere of Top Chef 18, gone was the signature Blais hair which is typically long and tall on top, short on the sides and just kind of screams “I am the cool kid you didn’t know was cool.” Instead we got – well I don’t know what the heck that was. Seriously, we watch him walk into the room at one point and it was his hair that went first!

As one person on Twitter joked, “Eat your heart out Jimmy Neutron.” Still another tweet stated, “I think I have enough pandemic hair to pull off the Richard Blais look now.”

I don’t really know how we would describe what is happening with the Blais hair in this premiere, but it was definitely enough to steal the show. I couldn’t tell you what the challenges were or even who won the first episode (I plan to go back and watch again), but I can tell you that when it comes to new dos, this is one I won’t forget for a while.
