It has been a very peculiar season of Hell’s Kitchen so far. Normally Chef Gordon Ramsay has a very good eye for talent and sends home the weaker chefs long before they really have any hope of thinking they have a chance to win.

Season 19, however, has been one odd decision by Ramsay after another when it comes to evaluating the talent and, more importantly, the potential of the chefs in his kitchen.

First there was Jordan, who was repeatedly sent up for elimination for obvious reasons yet each time was given a reprieve as more talented chefs went home instead. Then there was the fiasco with Marc and the fact that Ramsay sent Adam home instead, a chef with incredible potential. And of course just last week we saw Amber, who received a black jacket over the more deserving Nikki, sent home after she crashed and burned during dinner service.

And now we all watched as Chef Ramsay sent Cody packing, a chef who is a natural talent and has barely shown what he can do, and instead kept the inferior Mary Lou.

Mary Lou is good, but Cody was the better Hell’s Kitchen chef.

Look, Mary Lou is an amazing chef and at her young age has an insanely bright future ahead of her. But are you really telling me that simply because Cody wasn’t as assertive at the pass during dinner service that she will make the better Hell’s Kitchen head chef? That Cody somehow deserved to go home? I don’t buy it.

Cody admitted he was nervous when he stepped up to the pass. Who wouldn’t be with Gordon Ramsay standing next to you? Learning to run the pass correctly and get what you need from your brigade is a skill that can be learned, and improves the more you do it.

Sure, Mary Lou did an outstanding job at the pass, but does that make her a better chef then Cody? No. Louder maybe, a bit more aggressive sure, but a better chef? Not a chance.

Over the course of Season 19 Cody more than showed what he could do and that he knows food, what can be done with it and that he knows how to run a kitchen. Yes, he’s obnoxious but who cares? The guy can cook and he should have been given the opportunity to compete for a spot in the season finale.

Nothing against Mary Lou, but once again Chef Ramsay made the wrong call. We may never know why he decided the way he did but it should make for an interesting finale.
