3 amazing grilled cheese recipes for Grilled Cheese Day
If you don’t like grilled cheese, are you human? Even if you can’t have it because of an allergy, you just know by looking at it that it’s amazing. And they don’t make cheese substitutes for vegans for any other reason than so they can enjoy some cheesy goodness too. It’s a fact (maybe).
Well, Grilled Cheese Day is here (on April 12 AND it’s also Grilled Cheese Month), and what better way to celebrate than by making some amazing grilled cheese sandwiches. Luckily, we have three recipes from MacKenzie Smith from Grilled Cheese Social.
Pepperoni-encrusted pizza grilled cheese
Try not to drown in a puddle of your own drool while making this pepperoni-covered sandwich!
The ingredients include mozzarella (try to get fresh, if you can), pepperoni (she uses Hormel), sun-dried tomato spread (yes, please), fresh basil, parmesan, and sourdough bread.
Put all the ingredients together into a sandwich minus the pepperoni and the parmesan. Put the pepperoni and parmesan on the outside of the bread and then grill or fry it up in a pan. Yum!
Candied bacon avocado breakfast grilled cheese
Next is the Candied bacon avocado breakfast grilled cheese. Talk about a mouthful!
The ingredients for this one include a fried egg, candied bacon, avocado, muenster cheese, and goat cheese.
First, you have to make the candied bacon but it’s pretty simple.
Chop up about a 1/2 cup of bacon (she uses Hormel Black Label) and cook it in a pot over medium heat. This is going to take 10-15 minutes. That may seem like a long time, but not for this.
Drain the fat and add brown sugar, red wine vinegar, chili powder, and cayenne to the pan. Stir until the liquid in the pan is reduced and the bacon has a sugary, sticky coating on it.
Now…time for grilled cheese!
Put one slice of bread down and place one slice of muenster cheese on top. Then add part of the avocado and sprinkle it with a bit of salt. Top that with a fried egg and the candied bacon. Next, add the goat cheese and the other slice of muenster and place the other piece of bread on top.
Butter the outside of the sandwich and grill for 7-10 minutes. It’s going to get gooey, golden delicious!

Croque pizza grilled cheese
The final recipe is a Croque pizza grilled cheese. If you’ve ever had a Croque monsieur, you know exactly what this is, but instead of ham, MacKenzie Smith uses Hormel pepperoni to give it that pizza vibe.
For those who don’t know, a Croque monsieur is simply a ham and cheese sandwich that is covered with bechamel sauce *drooling* and then baked until it’s brown and bubbly. This is that but with pepperoni. YUM!
