Have you ever been sipping on a White Claw seltzer and wanted it to be a little bit bigger and a little bit stronger? Then you are in luck!

As seen in People Magazine, White Claw is going bigger and bolder with a new line of their hard seltzers. Basically, they are looking to make things more interesting for the summer.

White Claw is calling the new product Surge. Surge currently comes in two flavors perfect for summer drinking: Blood Orange and Cranberry. What makes Surge different from their classic hard seltzer is both the size and the amount of alcohol. Surge cans are 16 ounces which provides four more ounces of fun. Surge also contains 8% ABV (alcohol by volume) compared to the 5% we are accustomed to with White Claw.

Surge also has a bolder look with a deep blue can instead of the subtle look we normally see from the characteristic white can and wave from the original. White Claw is calling Surge a “stronger wave of refreshment.” Along with the added amount of alcohol and seltzer, the calorie count is higher with Surge. Surge checks in at 220 calories which is more than double the regular White Claw flavors.

White Claw could be using Surge to meet options offered by other competitors

White Claw became popular as a lighter and fresher alternative to drinking beer without having to go all the way to just mixing hard liquor. The average can of White Claw seltzer is 12 ounces and is packed with natural flavors, carbonated water, and is sweetened with cane sugar. They are generally only 100 calories per can.

Surge could be the company’s answer to Truly’s Extra Hard Seltzer and Bud Light Platinum Seltzer which both also contain 8% ABV. Either way, if you are not too concerned with the calorie count but want the flavor in a carbonated seltzer rather than a hoppy beer, these may be great alternatives for you. Of course, you could always just opt for a glass of wine instead.

White Claw Surge is available now and is only being sold in individual cans. Each can is suggested to sell at $2.99 which can get pricey if you are looking to build your own six or 12-pack. The alternative is a great idea for the potential summer cookouts and picnics we may be able to experience again this year.
