Who doesn’t like donuts? It’s fried dough with sugar and frosting on it. What’s bad about that? Nothing! And honestly, the donut does not get enough praise. People say all kinds of things about cookies and brownies and cake and pie, but the donut has been shoved aside as that thing Dolores brings into the office on special occasions. Well, no more!

Friday, June 4 is National Donut Day in the US and it’s the perfect time to put the donut on the pedestal it deserves. Sure, it’s not the healthiest thing in the world, but it never said it was. The donut is for when you need a sweet, carby comfort treat. And it delivers every time.

More from Snacks

Whether you’re a chocolate-covered person, a sprinkles person (that would be me), an apple fritter lover, or you love a hot Krispy Kreme glazed original, there is literally a donut for everyone’s taste. And don’t even get me started on filled donuts. *drool*

My personal favorite is a Boston cream pie donut I get at my local grocery store. It’s a yeast donut, filled to bursting with custard, and covered in melty chocolate. It is literal heaven and I look like a kid who put their face in a chocolate cake once I’m finished eating it.

But whether you’re a yeast donut fan from Krispy Kreme or Dunkin’, like a cake-y donut (or donut holes) from Entenmann’s, or are all about your Timbits, National Donut Day is the perfect time to get a few (or a dozen) of your favorites, sit down on the couch, and enjoy their sugary goodness. When it’s a holiday, no one can judge you!
